Man the trials and tribulations of being five!

Lately Caitlyn has been asking to stay home the next day from school, even going to the trouble of pretending to be sick (then flushing the toilet before I could see) ,I was concerned about this, cos i didn't think she should be doing that yet, (i mean wait till your actually at high school mate!) but being Caitlyn she won't tell me what is wrong.

Well, last night she did her usual "is it school day tomorrow ?"
"yes"
" my head hurts "
"have some water, you need to get to sleep , you have school tomorrow"
at that she started BAWLING her eyes out, and said "but tomorrow is buddy sharing and i always get it wrong and i cant do it" I might sound like im over reacting but i have never, in her whole life seen her that worried or upset, i had to hug her so i wouldnt cry myself!
I decided I would go and talk to the teacher but I wouldnt be able to do that till this afternoon as I start early on friday, C had worked herself up into such a frenzy that it was well after ten before she got to sleep, so i kept her at home today , one day wont hurt, and I went and talked to the teacher today, which was good, now i know what buddy sharing actually involves and i can practise with her, and because they do it on wednesday morning as well (I dont start till 2 on Wednesday) i can sit and watch her, so we both feel a lot better about it.

But honestly, seeing how upset she was , how worried its obviously been making her just about broke my heart,it struck me that she can never go back to those days where she had no problems, slowly but surely, she is entering the real world and try as i would like to protect her, I obviously cant control everything.

Sorry for the novel, it didnt actually have a point, i just needed to vent

Awwww hugs Kelly and Caitlyn! I'm just beginning to understand how vulnerable they are, and how vulnerable you feel when they are at school. I keep wanting to ring every five minutes to make sure Maya is OK.

I hope Caitlyn has a better week next week.

Aww, poor girl!
It would be nice to put them in a giant bubble sometimes, we all know that they have to find about about the world at some stage - but even when that time comes, it seems like they're not old enough

i am really scared of Jake going to school and being in a class with 20 odd other kids and the teacher not realising that jake is actaully much more special and important than anyone else there.

Poor wee caitlyn!!!!

I'm glad you were able to work it all out with the teacher and with Caitlyn. Hopefully she can understand better that she can come to you with those kinds of worries etc. I guess there's a lot of pressure on 5yos to try and fit in and do things right etc. If she's only newly at school, she'll need a lot of encouragement there. Keep it up, sounds like you're doing a good job!

Thanks for all your kind words everyone, sorry , i havent been on for a couple of days

Well, turns out Buddy sharing is more of a listening exercise, basically they sit across from their "buddy" who tells them something like "my name is Sarah and i like icecream" then they have to remember it and when they are asked they say "this is Sarah, and she likes icecream" I think Caitlyn was getting shy about saying it in front of people, shes a lot shyer since being at school.

Liz i know what you mean, i want to say to her teachers "shes very important, way more important than the other kids in her class "but of course all the other parents think that too haha.

Oh emma, in Caitlyn's first week i had to restrain myself from calling her school
