I've been told that once all the spots have crusted over then they are no longer contagious- so would assume that if the spots have actually gone then it should be fine.

Could you phone healthline and ask them?

Just found this on kids health "Chickenpox is contagious from about 2 days before the rash appears and lasts until all the blisters are crusted over."

I've heard the same as Jen. Tricky thing is the early stages.

yeah they were coming over on saturday and found out on thursday the uncle had it.....turns out they didnt get it..but could they be carriers..?I'm paranoid about this topic..thats why I'm avoiding taking him to my work ...i agree he needs some germs but not the ones from a million preschoolers:) !

I would think that if they didn't get it then they have had it before and are therefore immune so wouldn't be carrying it and if you have had it before you would have passed the antibodies to Ethan in your breastmilk, but if you are uncomfortable about it why not ask them to come next weekend so that you know for sure they are clear of it.

yeah i did that last weekend:) hehe...but hopefully can put it off again..it will be almost 4 weeks by then..chickenpox is tricky...you can (like my old Boss) have never had it and not be immune to it..which is weird..as she is like 50 and a teacher!:) yes i guess the great thing about feeding is immunity..

I don't know how definite the immune thing is with chicken pox and bf. I'd still take the cautious route but even in saying that, I don't know any kid under 6mos that has contracted CPox.

I came into contact with it a couple of times as a child but never got it until I was 18 - after my little brother got it, so I guess I needed the close contact of same household etc.

I have also read that once the spots are all crusted over they are no longer contagious. I'm sure I read that on the "bug" sheet that is at the boys daycare.

I've never had chicken pox (and I'm 38) but my two older girls have had it. One had it while I was pregnant with the other.
And just because you've had it doesn't mean you are completely immune I know someone who's had it three times. Once was last year.
But in saying that your baby will probably still be carrying your immunity to it.

Maya was allowed back to preschool once her spots had crusted over.
And the parents are only a risk if they haven't had it coz they could be incubating it, once you've had it it's pretty unlikely (altho not impossible) that you'll get it again.

I had it 3 times before i was fully immune - rare but not that rare. Good to wait till you feel comfortable kawwww, I would hate for a bubba to have it!
