For those of you with big babies, what were their feeding times like at 7 weeks? Harry's have recently changed and I'm wondering if it's cos he's physically big and therefore following more like a 3 month old feeding pattern? I have no idea if it works like that, or even what a 3 month old feeding pattern is like.. I'm just doing the whole guessing game thing that is usual with being a mum! At his 6 week check, Harry weighed 6kg and was 63cm long.

My boy is fully bf and has recently started going longer between feeds - usually about 4 hours, although sometimes 3 in the late afternoon (used to be 3 hours and 2 in the late afternoon). He only takes one side now (used to be 2) but I think that's cos they have way more milk in them (so full and sore!) from when he had his growth spurt that started a couple of weeks ago. He has always fed like a champ and gulps it down.

Is it ok that he regularly goes 4 hours between feeds? Probably a dumb question but I've just read so many different things and need a bit of reassurance! And other babies the same age seem to go 2-3 hours between feeds as the norm. I guess I'd just like to hear other people's experiences... TIA

4 hours i would say would be fine, from what you say it sounds like her gets a good feed each time and he's getting bigger.   We always tell our parents not to let them go longer than 4 hours (or 4.5-5hrs overnight) just to keep up supply but sounds like he has found his nice pattern and is growing well.

I think you should be pleased that he is going 4 hours between feeds., I would assume that as long as he is putting on weight/growing then he is doing fine!!
Luke is a big boy, but I have now not got enough milk for him and am supplementing with formula. He really only ever went 3 hours between feeds, but now does 4 hours most days...

and like others have said long as he is gaining weigh etc which it sounds like he is..then 4 hours between feeds is fine.

Thanks guys... yeah I have no doubt he's growing well (!) it's just that he only just started doing the 4 hour thing in the last couple of days - so it wouldn't have affected the growing thing yet if you know what I mean. But I guess he would let me know if he was hungry ay!

Sometimes mums just need a bit of reassurance!

Bel, how did you know you didn't have enough milk for Luke? And how big is he now? Yep just like to know for the future just in case!

Well he is still putting weight on and doing really well, but I was completely empty at night, he would feed and then still be hungry... I am getting better at telling hungry signs and that is what they were. He wouldn't sleep until he was full and so would feed every half hour for about 3 hours... now he has 200ml of formula before bed and goes straight down...

Plunket nurse was happy with me doing that, otehrwise I was going to go crazy with all that feeding!!

Sounds great - in two weeks he'll probably do another growth spurt, just be aware

I have a baby book that does the feeding by weight rather than age which makes more sense to me. If he is gaining weight and is alert and sleeping well then I would say that he is getting everything that he needs.

Joshua is still feeding mostly 2 hourly during the day and the plunket nurse told me i need to start drawing his feeds out cos he has too much too often but he wont have a bar of it.  I wish he would feed 4 hourly.  He is formula feed which is spose to stay in the system longer so you would think he would take longer between feeds.

Id say Harry is feeding perfectly fine  but hey what do i know my boy is only like a week older hahaha

wrxchic, Spencer fed 2 hourly until 2.5 months and then went 2.5 hourly and once I started solids he went 3 hourly and still does 3 hourly now. (but sleeps from 7-7). 2-4 hour feeding is normal, if you are happy with 2 hour feeding stick with it, he will stretch it out when he is ready.

Gosh Daniel is 5.5kg and 57cm....  My little man is a big boof!  He goes 4 hours some nights and even during the day.  But generally he is every 3 hours during the day.  THe last couple of nights my boobs wake me before he does.  I figured he must have gone through a growth spurt.  The plunket nurse asked about his feeding patterns and she didn't say they were bad....

it does say that a 2 month old (though he said he doesnt like charts and its just a guide) at 2am,7am, 10am, 2pm, 5pm 8pm or so.. ' by two months she will feed about every 4 hours and take more at each feed than before.'

I think it was in the newborn bit somewhere and it may be under sleeping instead of feeding. It had three lines for three different weights I think

*looks* i can see the charts with three lines but they just have 0-6 months down the bottom and 0-12 kg on the side but doesnt say how much to feed them etc... it says ' your baby (boy) will put on weight faster now during this period than at any other time of his life, and is likely to more than double his weight in the first 6 months. Any weight within the coloured band is normal. sorry can t work out how to fix the focus..is this the one? sorry I'm not much help.. racing to shower and stuff and get everything done before he wakes up and my visitors come!
