Teach me to open my big mouth....

I've been planning to take DP on a special holiday for his birthday this year - he's turning the big 40. I've been unable to decide between Rarotonga or Fiji, so last night we were chatting about random stuff and I casually asked him "so, if you could go to any Pacific Island, where would it be?

And he says..... Bora Bora.

Right.

So today, I've quickly checked out airfares and accomodation prices and Holy moley, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my price range

Now I'm not so sure if I should plan such an extravagant birthday surprise.....

Gutted.

Yeah Bora Bora is gorgeous but it is also VERY expensive, even in the lowest cost accommodation options.

Why not just do a night or two on Bora Bora and the rest in Papetee?

Bora Bora is lovely, I would have suggested going to Papeete and then spending a couple of nights at Bora Bora.
I have friends in Papeete if you would like more info of nice but decent places to go and also places to stay.
Or even a trip to the travel agent for ideas?

I found Papeete terribly expensive also . If DH is really keen on the tropical island holiday what about somewhere in Asia? (Koh Samui for example). In my opinion it's way better value for money. Not everyone's cup of tea of course...
