Dopey woman didn't even have a midwife tho

Mind you, my m/w seems paranoid that this baby is just going to fall out, not sure why seeing as my labours haven't been that quick!

It said she didn't have a midwife, but maybe she was under the hospital care midwifes instead?

I got the impression from reading the article that she didn't have a m/w at all.

Who, me?

I must confess to being an educated cynic too, I know the stats for antenatal care for the Counties-Manukau DHB and they are embarrassing.

Was meaning that they always nit pick things to make everything seem more horrific.
But it's probably true that she had no midwife though!

I could probably manage without one this time round, but I wouldn't want to deliver my own baby, and I like my midwife.

hmmmm no midwife here...but then there are also docs and specialists...and to be honest in some parts of south auckland you might be better off without a MW! heard some horror stories about Pap maternity hosp in past few weeks and maybe bubba had too and decided it wasnt being delivered there!!!

Completely agree with you BS regarding papakura/south Auckland midwives ...I had a close brush with early labour at 37weeks and was put in Papakura maternity ward with one of my midwives (was with a group of 5, this one in particular i'd never met previously). She did nothing to reassure me baby was going to be okay, I had green gunk oozing out and she couldn't even tell me what it was ...Infact all 5 midwives were useless but thats a long story.

Luckily I changed to Greenlane Community Midwives & me wee boy was born at National Womens Hosp (thanks to a wonderful shift midwife,OB & registrar), and then transferred to Birthcare Parnell (can't recommend that place highly enough). SO GLAD I made the change at 38weeks. Papakura Maternity Hospital is definitely not up to scratch!

And OMG can't believe that story, Porchestor Road is about 2 mins around the corner from where we live (we are in the good area though LOL)

Had to edit ...argh spelling errors

That's exactly why I posted it -- I saw the headline on the Herald site and had a nanosecond of "Oh, my God, GandT has had her baby!" LOL

Just as a comment in response to those who are appalled about not having a midwife (btw - I don't for a second believe that the woman was 'going it alone' with her pregnancy. I think the story twisted it.) But anywayyyy, I'd go through a pregnancy without a midwife. I don't think they are absolutely necessary. On the scale of the general population, yes, but on an individual level - nope.
