Hi, not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but anyways...
one of my good friends is getting married about 2 weeks after my EDD on the Gold Coast and has invited me and DH. I really want to go, but wondering a couple of important things: 1) how difficult would it be in reality to take a newborn overseas for a week? (I may get mum to come with us to help?) 2) passports - can we get a passport that quickly for the baby? 3) can the baby travel? 4) should I even be considering going at all? your advice would be appreciated! thanks  ------------- http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">  DD#1 Sept 08 DD#2 Oct 09 |

There is no guarantee that you would have had the baby. If you end up having a c/s then that may change things as well.
Paws would know whether there is an age limit on flying so you could pm her, and I think there are places you can go in most cities where you can get the passport there and then, just requires some queing. From my own personal experience I wouldn't even consider it, but that is just me other people might not think it would be a problem. I had a c/s and was not properly mobile, sitting for a flight would have been extremely uncomfy, plus feeding and sleeping etc was no where near sorted and I was a complete mess who most days didn't managed to get dressed till 3pm and some days not at all. Sorry not trying to scare you, i'm sure lots of people handle it better than me. -------------

I know nothing about the travelling side of things but if the baby is 2 weeks old it will still be at that feed/sleep stage so won't even notice its somewhere new. You on the otherhand might not feel so up to it but then again getting all dressed up and away from the house might be really nice. Its really hard to judge how you will feel.

| Oh heres a question - sorry for hijacking the thread :P Babys and passports - whats the deal with that? When we go on our honeymoon, baby will be 4 months old, and I dont know what to do! I have no problem taking him, cuz we're going on a cruise and the ship has a good daycare onboard! |

I do believe that your baby has to be six weeks old before it is allowed to fly. Flying for a very young child can be very painful also as the pressure builds up in their ears. I will ask DH about the exact rules on babies flying and write agian.
In my mind it sounds like a brave thing to do. Maybe if you did miss the wedding you could go over when they get back form their honeymoon that way you would also get to see more of them anyways. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

You can fly at any time but most midwives/doctors recommend after 6 weeks to give baby a chance to develop a bit of immunity. You can get a passport within 48 hours if you are prepared to fork out the $$$ for an urgent one.
IMO, I'd give it a miss. I flew with Maya at 8 weeks and the gremlins at 10 and I wouldn't even consider flying any earlier than that coz it's hard work! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Yeah I think you should plan a trip to see your friends at a later date, perhaps when they get back from their honeymoon?
It seems like alot for a new mum and newborn to go through so quickly and I wouldn't recommend it from my own experiences. Maybe just give your time to relax, recover, and enjoy/bond with baby for 6 weeks, then make the trip over... atleast you should have bubs in a good routine by then and can enjoy your time away more? I agree - I think I would wait until they have come back from their honeymoon and bubs is a little older.
OTT MissAngel - have you checked that the cruise line allow 4mth olds? When we went to book a cruise for December they told us they wouldn't allow us to go until Cooper was at least 18mths old, and that babies weren't allowed?? ------------- Mr Mellow (16) Miss Attitude (8) Destructa Kid (3)
