Hi ladies,
I've just found out that because I'm now working (in ADDITION to studying full time), I'm no longer eligible to use student health at Massey. Grrr! I still have to pay the fees that allow me to use them, I just can't use them. So I'm very annoyed about that! Especially as they have the most wonderful doctor I've ever been to (and I've been to a few!).
So anyway, I now need to find a new doctor in PN. Does anyone have any recommendations (good or bad) as to who I could see. Mostly I just go every 6 months for my pill, but hopefully we'll be TTC in about a years time, so I'd like a doctor that is good for all those issues etc. I'm really gutted at the moment, as I was hoping to use Jade for all of those things I found this out as I rang them to make an appt to discuss what I needed to do before TTC (I have a few other issues that may affect that), so I'm really not happy to have to have that talk with a new doctor
I'd prefer a female doctor, and one who takes the time to explain things to you. I have a veterinary background so I like to know the science behind things. Help!

The Docs at Amesbury Health Centre all have good reputations.  It's hard to get a new GP in Palmy now though, unless you've shifted in from out of town some won't add you to their list if they're full up already.   Good luck - hope you find a good 'un!

I see the drs at the Palms. They are great there and you get a student discount there. I can give you the name of the dr I see there (I refuse to se anyone but him) if you want. PM me and I can give it to you. It is a guy but he takes the time to go over things with you and talks real language as well.

I'll be interested to know how you get on rchick.
As I currently go to Bulls Medical Centre and I now live in Feilding and work in Palmy, and as you say while my Dr is great for me its not convenient for TTC and babies.

Is that a new rule? I was working through all my time at Massey and still went to student health... it just doesn't seem right at all, esp as you're still a full time student.

If you work fulltime (and at Massey) then I think you lose the free dr. Yep Nic thats the one . I gave the details to rhick.

I've only had two docs in Palmy, so for what the two cents is worth...

Ash Dayha (Roslyn?)
Martin Minnee (Hokowhitu Medical Centre)

I don't know who is taking on new patients atm in town, most are pretty booked. Even though Dr Minnee is male I have been talking with him about endo issues recently and found him straight-forward, sympathetic and sensitive. He often has women side dr's too.

We use the palms, sometimes get different docs but tend to have a couple that have really put things in motion for us... one of them, (again the one with the last name starting with H) has been the one that got us going with mike's inverstigations again.

he he, Jade's my MOH's big sis, she's awesome and lovely.

We see John Geard or Dave Mundell at Vic Med Centre. Both are awesome though I love John. I know they were signing up new patients for Dave not too long ago as he's fairly new to the practice (I think he's been there a year)

John is very good at getting things done for you. He's also an ex obstretrican (sp?) according to my MIL

hehe stacey and his wife is a midwife lol, both really lovely , and we see the H doc at the Palms he is absolutely awesome, will only see him if we are able, and my parents see Dave at the vic st, he has also been great for them, has had lots of things diagnosed for my dad that other docs have overlooked and one quite serious which my bro and I had to have tests done and we are both carriers which is a bit scary for our kids, it's a blood disorder, my dad produces too much iron at this stage we both don't have both genes which is good but have to have regular tests and if they had not changed docs I don't think it would have been picked up.....gosh what a ramble!!

Wow thanks ladies. I'll try a few and see if any will take me.

Is the Palms the one that used to be by pak'n'save? And if so, do they allow you to make appointments with particular doctors?

Cathrine, its only because my job is at Massey that I can't use student health, which I think is dumb. I could work full time anywhere else, but as soon as I'm on the Massey payroll they say my staff status takes priority. I'd happily have paid to see them, given I'll have to pay somewhere else. Its not so much that its free (although that's obviously a big plus) but that its convenient and Jade's a fab doctor that I really wanted to stay.

OTT Janine, I love your signature!

Ohhhhh yeah, he knows he can say whatever he wants to DH and I and we won't take offence so he's always cracking sex jokes with us and has me especially in fits of laughter.

It's great to have a doc with a sense of humour!!

I didn't know his wife was a midwife!!! lol

I thought I'd update this, now that I've finally been to the docs.
Sydney St docs has closed their books, but the Palms had an opening with a young woman doctor. So I've been to see her and will sign up with them for the time being. She was nice enough, but seemed to only really give me a minimum of information. I mentioned I was thinking of TTC soon, and she never mentioned folic acid or anything. But I've only seen her once and will give her a few more chances yet.
Thanks for all the suggestions
