Do any keen sewers out there know if $25 a metre for pure merino fabric (knit, I think) is a good deal?  A shop in town is advertising that, and I've made Ella a singlet out of some merino I had here, but will make her a fair few more if that's a bargain price.  I haven't shopped for it before so don't know if that's a deal or not.  I won't be buying her any thermals this year if I make merino undergarments instead though, and it does seem healthier.   TIA

That's a great deal. They're selling it at shop in CBD Wgtn for $49.95 per metre!

Hrmmmm... I know I've been buying it pretty cheap from the TNN trading post - I'll check in town for you today.

I think it depends on what weight it is. Do you know what gms per sq m the fabric is? I think icebreaker stuff is 200gms and superfine is just over 100gms (as far as I can tell)

I think $25.00 looks a pretty alright price after searching the net (if it is superfine).

Where are you again Andie?
There is a place in Levin that sells it for $10 a metre, but I'm not sure what the quality is like? Nikki, do you know?

Oooh $10 a metre sounds amazing - that's where the stuff I already have is from, mum grabbed it in Levin - it's super-fine but I think might be remnants because it's very short lengths - I only got a singlet for Ella and a botched one that's headed for the bin out of one length of it.  The stuff in town here (Palmy) is fine, but nowhere as fine as mum's Levin score - I dragged my sick self into the shop and grabbed a couple of metres anyway - was $50 at full price

...If I were cleverer I'd make a sleeping bag for her but I think I'd want a heavier weight for that still.  And so far I'm a pro at Tag Blankies, but other than that have really just messed around making stuff I've designed - I'm not at the sleeping bag level yet I don't think.

I've got some stuff from Levana (Levin) - different weights I think but on the lighter side. I haven't sewn with it but it would be fine for sewing with.

I have issues with sewing knits so haven't braved it yet

does anyone know where you can get merino on a roll in Auckland?

MiL wants to make Caitlin another sleep bag for this winter. I love the GoGO bags but can't be spending $170!

Apparently Global Fabrics in Newton Road have good priced merino too.

Does anyone know where I could find a good pattern for a sleeping bag - I think I might get some merino and ask my mum to make one up for him.

I just found a tutorial for a sleeping bag on Craftster. I'll track it down again.

Does anyone know anywhere in West Auckland? I don't head into town or South Auckland very much.

I have a Kwik Sew pattern (#3212) which is for a sleeping bag with a seatbelt hole, long sleeves and a hood (although I am sure you could miss this out.) I just got it from our local fabric store

Global Fabrics in Newton Road have the BEST merino stock - I often go in and dream about what I could make. Will probably get some and make into blankets for bubs. $25/m is pretty good.

Linzy, I'm still getting familiar with West Auckland - would be great to hear if anyone can recommend fabric shops out this way.

Designer Textiles rocks! They had some great stuff there last time I went, and the odd roll of Pumpkin Patch stuff too Plenty of merino, all different weights and a reasonable amount of different colours.
