Is it okay to feed this to my son? (Lucas eats around 3 slices per day ...maybe 4)
When I asked my Dr at his 10 month check she said she would recommend processed cheese over normal cheese ...any idea why this would be?... And when I last saw Plunket nurse she told me there was no problem with him eating processed cheese slices.. AND THEN tonight my Nana passes on a msg from my Aunty that I shouldn't be feeding Lucas processed cheese as its just full of fat and could cause obesity later on in life ...something to do with the fat stores/cells blah blah Basically told me I was the reason why Lucas is 'fat' in her words ...since when has it been a bad thing for a baby to be a healthy size? Do you feed your baby processed cheese? Is there really any harm in me doing so? Argh im so worked up now. ------------- Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :) |

Gosh some people can be so rude! Im sure as long as its not the only he eats, and its part of a balanced diet then its fine.
4 a day does sound quite a lot tho. |

Tis very rare to eat 4 a day ....2 is usually where I stop offering them to him UNLESS he refuses to eat his veges then I give him a slice to muck around with whilst I feed him (how much of the cheese actually ends up in his mouth is prob a diff story) ------------- Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :) |

My only query would be what is in them to process it - i don't know anything about them, but maybe some of the chemicals might be too much for little systems - and it might very well not be too. Hello, Lucas is so NOT fat! -------------

ok, checked on wiki and the main concern would be salt levels - don't know how much our processed cheese has, but it would be worth checking if you are concerned. -------------

Yeah I think my Aunty is saying that because her boy is 10kg and a month older than lucas, and lucas is 12.5kg now ...but weight doesn't mean anything in my books, her boy walks and lucas doesn't. He just piles the weight on lol.
I can't for the life of me remember why my Dr. suggested the processed cheese over the normal cheese, I thought it was odd at the time. Poor boy loves his cheese but now I don't know if I'm prepared to feed it to him anymore  ------------- Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :) |

I think in moderation it's not an issue.
Personally we don't use processed cheeses in our house because we are turning more to organic foods and trying to cut out processed stuff. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

DD loves cheese slices and has at least 1 every day, shes 2.2 years and 13.3kg which I don't think is over weight.

well if lucas is fat James is obese he's nearly 9 months and over 10kg, so pfft at the comment on that, haleigh love processed cheese and shes healthy, james prefers the block cheese rather than the slices.

Omigoodness. I am so annoyed at people who think chubby babies are fat!
Drives me mad. My plunket nurse was concerned about Hannah when she was 18 months as she was higher on the weigh percentile graph than the height one. Well freak me! Sorry that my 18 month old is chubby!!! Anyway, she's super lanky and tall now so you really can't tell. Tell her to feck off. BUT, I would be concerned about an overload of processed cheese... but that's mainly because I don't like the idea of processed stuff and am into raw produce more than anything else. But one slice a day shouldn't do any harm! |
