have a bubba with downs?
and if so would you (or families you know if that is the case) be prepared to speak to a family who just had a bubba who is downs. It has come as a huge shock to the family and dad especially would like to talk to people about this. PM if need be. They would like to email initially. I know them and the extended family well. They missed a scan which would have shown the risk and are shattered from what has come as a huge shock to them. thank you in advance. |

I have worked with a child who has downs for the past year and a bit- I'm not sure if I could be much help but just thought I would offer my support. There are some great agencies out there and lots of support for children with downs. In Christchurch they have a wonderful facility called the Champion Centre where kids under 5 go once or twice a week for Speech therapy, Occupational therapy etc.
Every situation is different with downs and there is nothing to stop them from having a pretty 'normal' life, with the right support from family and friends. The wee girl I worked with is coming up to 7 years old and although is delayed with her learning and has some speech and mild physical issues, is such a great kid and her parents are both really awesome and want the best for her! ------------- http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">  DD#1 Sept 08 DD#2 Oct 09 |

that would be awesome...the whole family are reeling...and altho coming around and they know that downs kids are the most lovable kids of all at times...that realisation will have to come to them in their own experience....
if people want to chat with them via email please PM me and I will pass on email addresses to them. They are not part of the site...so if people like your sister want to do it anon that will be no worries... |

It must be a shock to not know, and even though it is easy enough to say, I think that if you had a child with a disability of some sort, downs would definately not be the worst you could come across.

Bombshell, the mum of a school friend of mine has adopted a couple of downs children. The youngest was 3 mo when she adopted him and is now almost 4. I could check if she'd mind emailing them if you'd like. -------------

| If they are in the Howick/Botany area, my Mum knows the lady who runs a downs support group. She has a 1 year old boy with downs, and she sounds like shes an awesome person. |

Hi there,
I work as a support worker with people who have downs as well as people with other conditions. People with Downs are great people to be around! If they were wanting to talk to someone who works with people with downs then I'd be happy to (I've worked with people that have it with range of extents) Just thought I'd offer support from a different angle like Emachan, if they were interested. I dont think they know where to turn at moment or what to take in or feel. I know downs kids are awesome...I have a good friend whose child (now adult) is williams syndrome (similar) and is a cool kid! |

BS I was just going to offer some hugs and say it is hard work but very rewarding.
I grew up with my brother who has Williams Syndrome, never met anyone before who has even heard of it! |

If you do a googgle search it should come up with heap's of support group's. I like so many other's have worked with kids with Down's and theytruely awsome kid's how ever a parent I can imagine it would be heart renching. ------------- Deborah Mum to:

thank you all - they arent family to me but family of a good friend.
PMs were much appreciated and I have passed on some details already to the grandma to talk it over with them this weekend when they are able to breath.... anyone recall which issue of little treasures (i think) had the article re the twins with downs (that mum was awesome!!!) |
