This is contains more than a tad TMI, so you have been warned!

I've only just thought of these questions and if I don't write them down right now I'll forget by morning LOL

I have come to conclusion (whilst watching 3 DVDs Thanks Amy!!)
Having a laparoscopy, hysterscopy and D&C are far worse, IMO ,than having a C-section!

I'm sure I wasn't this uncomfortable after my C-section?!?! Maybe I was slightly pre-occupied after that with a tiny baby to look after?!?!

But this royally sucks!!! I even look like I've just had a baby (or am 6 months preggy!) Not that that is bothering me as the only comfortable pants I could find were my old maternity pants! LOL

So that was the whinge part - here come the questions!

How come I'm not allowed to take my left over pethadiene (still within use by date)?!?! Hospital said to stick with what surgeon had prescribed (I've been given a million panadol, brufen and losec). I was too tired and wasted to even think about arguing that one yesterday.

I feel really dehydrated all the time even though I've guzzled (love that word!) four 1.25 litres of water and countless pint glasses of lemon cordial - which of course creates at least 1 trip to the toilet every 30 mins so I'm getting lots of exercise, just like the fact sheet tells you to do!

And how come I'm not bleeding that much from the D&C?!?! My AF finished 2 days before the op so I'm assuming (dangerous word) that there wasn't much lining to scrape away but saying that one of the scans I had showed a thicker than "normal" uterine lining!?!? I've had a couple of 5c piece sized clots that were definitely new blood as they were bright red, but a stringy kind of clot, rather than the blobs I'm used to (EW!). The hospital called this morning to see if I was ok, as did the spec's admin lady and both said the amount of bleeding was fine unless it burned on the way out (that would mean infection - all ok so far *touches wood*)

And how come I don't have any sensation in my bowel to push out a #2!?!? They're coming along quite nicely on their own so I assume nothing is wrong there and that my body is being over protective of all my insides.

When did you take your bandages off?

What did your belly button look like after the op? I had a fairly nice looking innie - I'm dreading what it looks like now! I had an unhealthy obsession with it when I was pregnant too LOL

How come I'm not as tired as I thought I would be?!?!
I have been resting a fair bit, but also been up doing light chores to pass this freaking painful trapped gas! That has mostly gone now thank goodness!

I feel more scared of popping open and my insides falling on the floor than I ever did after my c-section

I knew there was a perfectly good reason for wanting to avoid this op for the past 8 months - I feel like absolute sh*te!

P.S
Thanks for the dinner Emma! Was very much appreciated

Man that's a lot of questions!

I've never bled much after a d and c, I know some people do but I kinda figure the whole point was to clean everything out so there's bugger all left to come out.

My bellybutton has recovered fine, I had my bandages taken off about 5dps but I was an inpatient in Auck at the time.

Not sure about the pethadine.

The dehydration is from the anaesthetic rather than the actual type of surgery and will pass, but this heat probably isn't helping.

the lemon cordial wont help with the dehydration - might make it worse. and the tablets might be contributing too...

i havent had what you did but have had keyhole surgery for gall stones and my bellybutton is fine, hasnt changed a bit.

the D&C would have cleaned you out a bit and i dont recall bleeding much after mine so that sounds "normal", or in the range of "normal".

the rest i cant help you with sorry but ... if you want i will swap the numb bum for my very sore one!! LOL!

funny you should say that about the wounds story - I was just looking at the one to the left of my belly button (ok - so I was having a prod to see what it felt like LOL) and I think I've finally found a place to have a tattoo (once it's healed tho!) not to cover it up, but to use the scar in the design...maybe?!?!?!

First Toni, the tummy ... I ended up at Egg and bought 2 pairs of maternity pants to get through for the couple of weeks after my lap! I had a huge tummy (seriously - the girl at the store asked me when I was due ). Normally, I'm more or less flat.

I have another friend who has had numerous laps, and her son by c-section and she said that the lap was far, far worse.

Nothing odd happened to my belly button. Don't fear!

I had my period about a week before the op, and I bled a lot too, and for longer than normal, with yukky clotty bits. A word of warning - your first couple of periods may be super heavy after the lap, so be prepared. I was terrified! I thought I was bleeding to death!

I wasn't allowed my pethadine either - I got paradex. Hardly the same thing pethadine was lovely

Possibly the dehydration comes from the gas (that they use to blow up your tummy) and the massive cleanout pre-op (assuming you had to have one of those), and then the not drinking pre-surgery. I was much the same, and I think that it just takes a while to catch up again and rehudrate your body.

Can't help you with the No.2s other than I remember it being a bit of an odd sensation, but I can't remember why!

As for tired ... I was knackered. Completely, utterly wasted. There was much DVD watching for a few days, and actually, from memory, I did an almighty Gilmore Girls marathon!

I hope this helps, or at least lets you know that you're not on your own. Get better soon!

How come I'm not allowed to take my left over pethadiene (still within use by date)?!?!
**Not sure - I was on a pethadene pump while in the hospital and was discharged with panadol!
ETA: I just read Gingers post and realised I was givine Paradex aswell but it spaced me out and made me hallucinate so I didn't take it!

**Not sure either - I can't remember feeling thirsty. But then I was extremely nausous (sp?) for a couple of days after so that probably masked it.

And how come I'm not bleeding that much from the D&C?!?!
** I only had to wear a pad the day of the op and the next day. But even the next day, prob a liner would have been fine. I was also surprised there was hardly any blood!

And how come I don't have any sensation in my bowel to push out a #2!?!? They're coming along quite nicely on their own so I assume nothing is wrong there and that my body is being over protective of all my insides.
** Don't know this either!! Maybe all the swelling inside is cusioning it a bit????!!??!!??

When did you take your bandages off?
**From memory it was about 4 days after. I rung the clinic and asked as they were starting to peel away at the edges and water was getting in. Once I took them off, I still covered them with bandaids to stop rubbing on my clothes.

What did your belly button look like after the op?
**Did you have the incision inside your bellybutton or just above/below? Mine was inside and it didn't really change it at all. Just a small scar that you can't see unless you have a good look inside!

How come I'm not as tired as I thought I would be?!?!
**I was a bit tired but like I said earlier I felt really queasy so wasn't eating much!

Hope you feel better soon Toni! I was surprised how painful I found it - I had myop on a Thursday and told work I would be back on the Monday but didn't end up back until the next Thursday I think

Good point re. the bandages! I'm just nosey and want to see what it looks like but I remember how painful it was when clothes brushed my CS scab in the early days. Might just leave well alone lol

As far as I can tell the incision is inside my belly button.

As for work - I'm just glad my Boss's wife is a Gnae nurse! He expected me back the next day as he thought it was "minor surgery". Glad to say his wife set him straight - I'm going back next Tuesday (1 week and 1 day post op).

I'm feeling heaps better today - but still have 6 DVDs to trawl through, ain't life tough

P.S
Does anyone know how long it takes for biopsy results to come back? I'm trying not to think about it but I know DH is very worried that it wasn't just endo

Hmmm, sorry to hear it's sore :( I don't recall that although I was quite bloated for a wee bit.

Re: the belly button. I guess it depends. Mine is completely unchanged. If I really dig into it I can see a small scar but it is 100% the same from the outside and I've had 2 laps

Re: number 2s, maybe your insides are still a bit numb? I don't rememeber.

As for popping open, I remember being scared of that after my first lap but I think it was more a mental fear. After my second one I didn't worry about that any more so perhaps it's just a fear of the unknown?

Your bleeding sounds fine. I was the same. Not much at all.

The thirst will be due to the anaesthesia. Should settle down soon.

Can't remember the answers to the other things sorry.

REALLY sorry you feel so yucky :(

Hope you feel better soon.
It took me about 2 weeks to fully feel normal again after mine...I took things real easy.
The combination of the anaesthetic and the painkillers will make you thirsty. I also think it takes time to rehydrate yourself after not having anything before the op.
The gas and swelling is what is probably causing the big tummy, wear some comfy clothes
As for scars...the post op nurse told me I would still be able to wear a bikini (not that I wear 'em anyway) but no way. My scar is so ugly, it is a red lumpy thing just under my belly button and it feels yucky when it gets touched or rubbed.
I didn't take my bandages off for about 5 days or so.

What a nasty end to my honeymoon!

Hugs to you, understanding your frustration.

You probably had saline solution put thru as well (thirst)
Tiredness - maybe you're still full of drugs and it will hit later. Probably it's just a diff tiredness than having a baby...

*continues reading with dread and interest lol*

I just had a visit from a very good friend of mine who had her DS at 27 weeks gestation and had a classic C/S to get him out (top to bottom, but outside scar is same as mine LSCS), she has also had the same ops and she also said these ops were far worse than even her C/S!!!
I was hoping I wasn't just being a sook lol

My tummy is really swollen today! The above mentioned friend is 5 months pregnant and I look further along than her (I also FEEL pregnant!!! My belly is rock hard, but no gas. I'm getting a tad concerned as the pain seams to be getting worse not better, and the weird thing is that it hurts on the side where I didn't have an incision!?!?!?

Jess - I took the anti-nausea sticker off last night and am just as thirsty today so I don't think that had anything to do with it.

How come I'm not allowed to take my left over pethadiene (still within use by date)?!?! Hospital said to stick with what surgeon had prescribed (I've been given a million panadol, brufen and losec). I was too tired and wasted to even think about arguing that one yesterday.  Be naughty like me and just take it if you need to, I was given panadol, tramadol and antiflam after my last one

It'll be the general

And how come I'm not bleeding that much from the D&C?!?! My AF finished 2 days before the op so I'm assuming (dangerous word) that there wasn't much lining to scrape away but saying that one of the scans I had showed a thicker than "normal" uterine lining!?!? And how come I don't have any sensation in my bowel to push out a #2!?!? They're coming along quite nicely on their own so I assume nothing is wrong there and that my body is being over protective of all my insides. Did they take endo off your bowels?? It'll be possible that coz they were "played" with that the feeling isn't there.

When did you take your bandages off? First time 3 days post op (my mum did it) and I had a small infection there. Second 2 days post op as the nurse needed to clean the wounds

What did your belly button look like after the op? I had a fairly nice looking innie - I'm dreading what it looks like now! I had an unhealthy obsession with it when I was pregnant too LOL Normalish its still an innie, I found with both my pregnancies it stayed in as well coz of the scar.

How come I'm not as tired as I thought I would be?!?! Give it time

Oh hun, I know... laps suck! Had the same as you in '05, and I still remember the trapped gas...

I was on pethidine at the hospital for 2 days, then had tramadol (that's good stuff!) plus something else as I was still having contractions (I often get them as the blood supply to my uterus gets cut off)

Belly button: I didn't even notice my scar until I was heavily pg and I could see it. It's pretty small though and normally my belly button looks fine.

So a hysto/lapro really feels worse than a c/s? Is that just cos of the gas?

Oh, I didn't bleed much after day 2, but I rarely bleed anyway (ie no periods) so wasn't unusual. I have a thicker than normal lining but no endo in 2005, although m/w wants me to have another biopsy as they think it might have progressed.

Tiredness: yep... rest as much as possible.

Preggy belly: lol! They actually blow the uterus up to about 5months size, I read my notes. So it does take a while, I lived in trackies until all of the puffiness went down. Hope it gets better soon!
