the first night off sleeping training. Decided this is the weekend to wearn Ella off night feeding and start getting her to sleep through the night. Decided pretty early on in the night that CIO and CC were not for me, as after listening to her cry for 15 mins I couldn't do it any longer....so I ended up sitting in her beside her cot rubbing her back until she slowly went back to sleep. She woke up twice and both times it took me an hr to get her back to sleep.....which I didn't think was too bad, considering that this is the first night in months that I haven't feed her in the night (I am actually quite proud of myself that I didn't give in).

I realise it is going to take a while before she sleeps through without me having to go in there.....but for those of you who have tried this method how long did it take you? Last night I had to rub her back until she was actually asleep...so I figure if I slowly rub her back less and less and leave the room earlier and earlier I should eventually get her to not need me.

With the back rubbing, I progressed from rubbing it to resting my hand on her back for a couple of sleeps (maybe rubbing if she made a cry, then stopping and holding it there), then i would take my hand off and just put it next to her so as soon as she made a sound I could replace it so she knew I was there.

Now I can usually go in to settle her when it is a sleepy wake up and cover her up with the blankets, rest my hand on her for a couple of seconds then leave and she is fine. Not always, but often!

Good luck with it. And good on you for not giving in! I would be exhausted, I don't envy you!
Can't help sorry, as I did a CC/CIO sort of thing for 2 nights many months ago and then he slept through apart from when teething or sick. He just gets more distressed if I stay in the room and don't pick him up/feed him so I couldn't do the patting thing.

Hope you have a better night tonight.

Good on you for not giving in and feeding her. It's hard isn't it. We are starting tonight.
Good luck they say after the 3rd night it gets easier.
