My kids tend to go nuts just before dinner - they are hungry and want food, and being a mean mummy I won't let them.

Anyway today jake decided he'd help with tea. normally i let them every so often but all my kids recipe books are all crappy foods that i don't need to eat for dinner - sausages with hapy faces and pizzes and stuff.
have discovered that the kids are much more able than i thought. jake and Taine made pasta tonight. i did the mix and they flattened it with their rolling pins. Then jake helped me make pesto.

So i had a meal from Cuisine (really - an old March 2006 edition) and the kids were hapy with their "noodles" - so will now be looking through my recipes for stuff that i love, that they can help with.

tomorrow we are having lamb shanks - so will get the kids to make mashed potatoes. it may sound a bit lame, but I love cooking, and i get really sick of having 2-minute n oodles or spaghetti cause it's quick, fast and can shut the kids up. Will now be trying to get them involved every night.

I've got mine crumbing schnitzel - she loves it!
I put out several bowls and plates for her and she will dip the pieces in egg and beef stock (mixed) then into the breadcrumbs, and then put them on another plate. At first I found myself wanting to re-dip if she missed bits, but it doesn't really matter and she is so proud of herself!

Yay for kids in the kitchen! Maya loves helping, she's never done anything as exotic as making pasta or crumbing schnitzel, but she loves mashing potato, and when we have wraps or burgers I put them together for her.

Oh yeah, we bake regularly, and I found out that she can put the muffin mixture into the mini muffin tins, without spilling too much!

Andrew loves helping me. I get him to put the chopped veges in the pot and he loves crumbing as well. I have been getting brave with him and the BBQ and letting him turn the meat patties.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'm slowly letting go of my control freak tendencies.

Tonight Hannah helped by pulling apart lettuce leaves for burgers. I looked over after cutting up the cucumber and tomato and realised she had pulled apart the WHOLE lettuce. For 2.5 people. Ah well... then I left her to it and have been finding bits of lettuce around the house the whole night.
