Has anyone used Pixifoto? Especially Westgate? I want to get photos of Jack and the three of us done for his first birthday. We can't afford the $250+ sitting fee plus print costs that professional photographers charge. So our best option is Pixifoto. Have you had good/bad experiences?

We had some brilliant ones done at Kmart henderson when Maya was a baby, and they weren't too pricey. Have been slack and haven't got any done of the gremlins yet

saw there was a mothers day special on at warehouse one at SP ....maybe they have specials up in wstgate too?

they cost a bomb and havent worked out how to do digi photos yet...we used the other one they own in botany for preggy ones....havent had ellas done...

what about those ones that always advertise at the shows...like vivid etc? bet they cost the same at end of day

We had some done at Westgate. They photos came out rubbish...the photographer didn't seem to have a very good rapport with kiddies Alyssa's age (she was around 6 months at the time). Plus they were running really late so we waited about an hour and by then Alyssa was tired anyway. I was told this is common for most Pixifoto places and that you should try and book as early in the day as possible. I have seen some nice ones though don't get me wrong.

They are great if you can get the free sitting free. I've heard that they have finally gone digital!

Then they turn into evil photog's. Especially when you go to pick the photos up. Be very careful.. before you know you'll be walking out fo there $300 down..

I think I spent about $300, I did end up with full sets of about 7 different poses tho. Much cheaper than the *cough* $7K *cough* I spent on 8 individual images from Patrick Bellett.

http://louisetreherne.weebly.com/ - Louise Treherne takes pics too - she's lovely.

Personally, I don't like the Pixi Photos. I mean, they are cheap... but that's about it. You can take better photos at home with a lamp. Costs $5 to get them printed from a memory stick into a decent size.

I go all the time for the free one but never pay for any more. Sure they are nice but I'm not paying that money when you can get a nice one of the kids playing in the garden yourself.

Yep I have used the Palmy ones. I prefer the PP ones over PF in Palmy - reminds me I need to book Josh's 12 month one.

There is a Lady on Te Atatu Peninsula (rhema photos's i think)who does really nice photo's she's the same one that goes around the maternity hospitals and takes those photo's so the name and contact should be in the western leader by those photo's. We had some really nice ones done a few years back and they were I think $11.00 each photo standard size and she took about 20 different ones. Then she gave us the negatives so we could get any enlargements we wanted ourselves. She has a studio at her house with dress up's etc for old fashioned photos or she can take normal portraits etc and has a nice garden for photo's as well.
I'd say the price is probably higher now but would be worth ringing to finds out.
Pixiphoto westgate weren't very good when I was last there and the photos cost heaps.

We hated our pixie photo's session. I won't bother with them again - even for the free pics.

It was uncomfortable and they put us in unnatural positions. They tried really hard to get my daughter to smile which just upset her and then made rude comments about her (as if my daughter being scared of starngers acting weird is a bad thing) then asked us which photo we wanted free without even showing us any test shots so we had no idea which ones would look good (although if they're digital now that'll be better).

They make their money on the fact that most parents feel inclined to buy pics of their own kids but since DH and I have taken better pics despite not being photographers we didn't bother buying any extras.

In contrast we went to a studio to have some pics done a few weeks later and they were fabulous - we had such a fun photo shoot and it shows in the finished product which everyone comments on when they enter our home - unfortunately that one cost us $1,600.

they still don't let you see the free ones which is dumb but meh. It is pretty cheesey and 80s looking.

Personally, and I have several friends who had similar experiences ...PixiFotos are a total rip off! For instance, I won some voucher for a 16" x 20" photo and sitting free, so I took up the offer. They sit you on a cheap block of wood with sheet of satin over it ...they took various shots so they could try sell me a bunch of photos for $390 on special down from $1000 ...WTF - $1000? ...they didn't even turn out great and the thing that got me, was the photographer was a girl that was 2 years younger than me (and a close friend of bubs pr*ck of a father) ...so she was 17/18yo at the time, just out of school ....and I thought they were suppose to be professional photographers? ....the photos were just average, only took the free one!

I've seen pixifotos with the arms of parents included in photo (when they are assisting baby in sitting up)- totally shocking.

All I can say is that good feedback about pixifotos seem to be few and far between, they are not only overpriced, but you can also get WAY better photos at home of your child where they are far more comfortable- you can get creative with b/grounds and props & have them enlarged. I'll prob never pay for professional ones again, I can do a better job myself.

And word of advice, I wouldn't go to Manukau Pixifoto in the warehouse there ...

Oh yes and they lack people skills, they also (as Mrsmojo has pointed out above) were very rude & treated my boy like a leaper because he wasn't in the mood to smile for strangers that day ...i felt that we were looked down upon & being judged.

Not a fan here either- use the money to buy a big white sheet, a bright light bulb and a big memory stick and go nuts with the digital camera! We got them done with Charlotte and they just look cheesy and dated. Not at all flattering of any of us!
We bit the bullet and forked out for proper professional ones and the difference in the quality for me was worth every penny.

I so want a couple from Patrick Bellett. We are doing the Star kids photo contest, but when i found out that they start at $1200 for a single small image I just about fell off the chair. I tryed to look all 'is that all' but I am fairly sure my heart stopped.
Oh, well, maybe later down the track I will have that sort of money to spend

I HATED my pixi photos. They were cheesy and outdated looking - stupid blue lighting! I especially asked for natural looking ones and they were anything but!
I won't bother with them again as I thought they were so hideous and a big waste of time!
Some peoples were obviously better though.

i wanted to use the free sitting thing i got in my bounty book for a family pic... my husband takes all the kids pics here and we have many of them framed...in fact i think nearly all the artwork in our house is his photos... but that means we have none with all of us in.

Sorry for posting in an old thread.
I work there, If you do go I would suggest making your own poses, don't just go with the ones they suggest. We always use the same ones and its never original or something that is true for each family.
I like it when bossy mums come in and say which way they want what. It means they get what they want.
Don't be afraid to do that.
We totally understand why people just take the gift one, when booking people I often say that you don't have to buy any at all.
Also, just a tip if you are ever approached by someone in a mall and you don't want anything, please don't bother lying, it's really better if you just say "not interested" we understand :]

Hey hold on - Azhure is just a newbie... let's not get carried away!! Maybe she has a more respectful approach.

It's hard working in sales especially when you have to meet targets. I don't like pushy salespeople either, but having been in sales I know what it's like on the other side of it too because people can treat you quite rudely... tough job.

Sounds like pixiefotos need some feedback and to improve their service. I was going to go down to Westgate for a pixifoto but now I'm really put off! Sounds as if no one has had a good experience!!

I haven't had Pixie photos done yet (was looking at getting them done within the next week or so) but have kind of been put off by bad feedback..... but my sister gt pixie photos done of her 2 kids (admittedly, it was 5-7yrs ago!) and she was really happy with them. Infact, they are framed and on display in their lounge. So I might have to go and get my free one (from the bounty voucher) and see how it turns out.

*Like*

I'd totally go get the freebie. I've seen some really blah looking photos from them before, which is kind of in line with what you pay, really. On the other hand, my friend got some stunning ones done - they ended up buying quite a few, because the photographer did a really great job of capturing the kids at just the right moments. And you've got nothing to lose by giving it a shot

Golly I didn't think anyone was getting carried away! Azhure just gave us a tip which some of us had already tried and it hadn't worked.... I assume she was suggesting we use this tip with all pixiefoto staff so it is not specifically her approach we were commenting on....

And Lisa if you've got a free one I reckon go for it! you have nothing to lose and you may strike it lucky eh

Yea, I do the same thing - not that I've ever been approached about photos, but with those horrible hand-cream salespeople, I used to not want to hurt their feelings and say 'no thanks' politely, but they just don't give up! So they get the cold shoulder from me now. WHO would want that job???

Dh always gets sucked in by pushy sales people. I usually start humming tunes, it's a real conversation killer and they usually look at DH as if he had better get me home quick!

The hand cream people drive me bonkers. I don't stop, I don't even slow down, I just shake my head and keep walking. I did have one (was with dh who of course stopped) try and grab my hand and force the stuff onto my hand despite me explaining that I can't go experimenting with stuff on my hands.

And my personal opinion on Pixi-photo. Not good, I have never seen a photo of theirs that I have liked and can't get over the prices they charge.

A girl from coffee group got some done of her daughter and they were awful, she spent a small fortune too.

My SIL has had a couple of photos done and again I thought they were awful. They just all look so fake and posed and not very good quality at all. She has quite a few different photos on the wall and the pixiephoto one's stand out, you can pick them straight away.

I got approached at the warehouse a few months ago and when I said no the lady started going on at me and then asked me why I wasn't interested. I was honest and told her I didn't like the quality and would prefer to spend a bit more and go with a professional photographer. It shut her up pretty quick and I was finally left alone.

So yeah, I would prefer to spend a bit more and get a professional to do them.

Alex that's a nice pic, my friends ones were taken at weird angles so kids looked distorted iygwim!

I had the same impression that she was trying to promote the product. I was merely giving my opinion of them with my comment on the last page.

nathansmummy I have worked in sales and imo it is better to respect the customer if you want a sale. Not to hassle them. I do know how rude can people can be though having done telephone surveying though however it is best to remain polite and respectful to them.

I haven't joined in the conversation at all but will put my 2c in. To me it looked exactly as it has to the others, that an old thread has been revived surprise surprise by a staff member that is a newbie to the forum with one post count and has never come back to comment further. You said it yourself she is a newbie. I can't remember exactly what people said but I don't remember anyone attacking her personally. I've worked retail, hospitality and call centres so have been on the no end more then once. Its not THAT disheartning unless your mainly commission based. If commission based then thats completely different subject.

I would also hope that azhure is keeping track of this thread and is giving the feedback people have put about the quality of photos etc to the appropriate people.

Your right she could have a more respectful approach but from most peoples experiences people in face to face sales that are selling a product such as the hand creams and pixiephotos are pushy. Knowing quite a few corporate sales people they are a whole different breed and are selling to companies who would have an interest in the product they are selling

I always just use Pixi Photo for the "free" photo.

This is the last one i got, which is the best one ive had. It was in fact a free photo because they forgot to charge me. Yes im naughty & didnt say anything lol

I also hate the way the try make you buy more photos. Im not a push over though so if i dont like them i dont buy them. But yes they are crap for what they try charge.

Oh that pic is gorgeous Sabrina!

I've had mixed service from Pixi.  I've got them done a few times, but the quality isn't that great really.  The last time I got them was almost 2 yrs ago of the 3 kids.  Because the photographer just keeps the camera on the stand, the angle isn't always good.  They had my 3 kids sitting/standing on the white background which was filthy from all the other people that had used it and it showed up in the photos.  Some done of just G when she was a baby, her arm is cut off in one if the pics (happened to be my free one).

Azhure if you are joining OB then welcome but if you are just adverting your product then best to read the rules as regular posts on here are not allowed to do it.

Jazzy I don't think she was promoting her product - just giving us some tips...

I quite liked the pixiphoto posted above... maybe it's worth going and seeing what they offer, dunno..

funny that a thread that had the last post in march 08 is back & not by a member but by someone who works for them......

ETA...oh & what it looks like to me is that Azhure googled pixi photo & came across this & posted & has not been back to which I made my comment of promoting her product...

I guess you could be right then... particularly with the number of posts - I hadn't realised all that. Maybe too scared to repost now? lol... guess it must have come up in a google search then. Yes, if she is reading, I hope she takes the feedback as it seems there's a lot of negative feedback about pixiphotos and sometimes managers/owners need to be aware of this to make changes!!

Iv personally never really been happy with Pixie photo , i always find Amelia looks extremly pale in the photos ( she is a very pale redhead child but she always looks sickly , i think its the lighting they use ) also they dont do any touch ups to their photos which for a "proffesional photo " i think is a bit slack . I had one recently taken of her and I together and i looked so old and wrinkly ( crows feet around my eyes , and once again very pale and sickly ) im only 24 and generally look qutie youthful in photos so i dont really think they are good qualty if they look like that and they cant even touch the photos up . I also had a run in with some staff members when they destroyed photos i had partially paid for on accident ( i was paying them off and no where near the time limit- i had about 6 weeks left ) , i wanted my money back but they refused and told me i could only get store credit . since then iv decided not to go back, it also took them over a month to get back to me about that so i made a complaint .

I am a bit soft and ended up spending alot of money on newborn photos of Amelia (over a yr ago ) and some at 6months ( the ones they destroyed) but when i look back at them im not happy with them at all , i see other newborn photos from other photographers and they are soooo much nicer , I have found another photogrepher and am booked in for sept so i am looking forward to some nicer pics . $100 sitting price but all the photo prints are cheap as chips ( like $5 a photo) and she comes to your home and and spends a couple of hours there getting a feel for the child and also in the childs own environment .

I've never used Pixifoto.
I had nothing against them but after walking past them in The Warehouse yesterday and hearing them sitting around talking and laughing really loudly about their various sexcapades I'm definitely not going to be!
Maybe a bit prudish of me I guess but it was really gross stuff that I heard and I was really glad I didn't have my kids with me at the time.

I used to work for Pixi years ago. They were at the time very comision based and it was all about the money. Sadly I was a great photographer, but a crap sales person so didnt do too well within the company. There is no room for artistic flare and we were told what poses sold well and that was all we were aloud to do. I loved working with the kids and parents were even good(most of the time) but the company sucked and as much as I loved the job I wasnt sad to leave them. Its such a shame as the have a great opportunity to capture a market worth a lot of money as, lets face it, who wouldnt spend money on a great photo of their child, Its just a shame they cant get that GREAT photo

I had a pixifoto session done as I take the majority of the pics in our family so I wanted a nice one of my son and I. I was fairly happy with this one. I noticed there post processing is pretty crappy though and she cut my foot off which means there crop or composition skills aren't very good. I got the free one of my son on a little chair which was pretty cute and then just bought the one of myself and him which was about $60 I think.
For my second son (born a month ago) we got a photographer to come to our house and she charged $100 for 2 hours (although she normally charges $150 but I got a discount as I booked a maternity session too) and we did lots of different poses. I'll just buy the 6x4's from her that are $12 per pic at this stage but that's still really reasonable compared to what else is around and she's really good.

Those photos are awesome! Love the one of your son feeding the bottle too cute!
Where abouts are you? A photographer coming to home sounds like a good idea and a good price.

We had a pixi photo done when DS2 was 8 weeks old and it was awful made my eyes look massive and Ds1 really white looking.! weird!

I'm just out of Christchurch so bit far for this photographer but thought it might give you ideas. I found her through word of mouth and goggling photographers in my area.
But, saying that, with what it sounds like previous posters in this thread have paid for professional prints up there it would almost be cheaper to get her and pay for her flights

I'd definitely recommend her. Are you on facebook? Because you can see some of her pics on there or google ladybug photography. You can get maternity pics done too. If you mention my name (Catherine) I think that might help when you say you are referred. :-)

Seems the Pixi Foto approach is universal cos I've had much the same issues with the local one here in the UK.

I deeply regretted not getting some nice ones of DS when he was brand new so took advantage of an offer that they were having as DS was turning 1 yr old. The free one is okay, posey and sitting down but its an 8 x 10 and was free. I ended up spending £200 on extra montages but in hindsight I got seduced cos my baby is so gorgeous ;-) but they are not really that good. For the next sitting that was part of the offer I got really annoyed because they wouldnt even print off the images in thumbnail size for me to show DH so I told them how crap I thought they were and basically just trying to bully me into an impulse buy and walked away with just my free image.

The third and last session is in Nov when DS is 2.6yrs and I'll get the free photo which is always the first image you agree to and then not even get them to take anymore!!!!

I have a friend in Auckland who is an amazing photographer, specialising in Kids and Weddings and as she is just starting out her prices are very reasonable, we are having a session with her when we come back for a visit at Xmas time. Google 'Dilworth Photography' if you are interested!!!

I totally recommend Ladybug Photography - I have had newborn pics of both my girls and also pregnancy shots - much much much more worth the money than what you would pay at Pixifoto!

I have always got my 'Free' pixifoto with my Bounty Vouchers, but none have impressed me enough to pay $90+ for a print of theirs - plus as mentioned above the print quality and editing etc is CRAP! Its so rushed too - I just politely look at the pics and tell them 'no thanks'.

To pay a professional photographer like Angela at Ladybug Photography is so much worth the money and then you can actually get the images on disk for yourself!

I find the 'free portrait' shot is always the simplest, crappiest picture and the other pictures they take, the ones you have to pay for, more effort is put in. Like the 'free' picture has no props and is boring as and the other pictures always have props and more effort is made.

I use the free one too from the Bounty pack and since we spent a lot on our eldest (now 15yrs old) we decided we couldn't afford it for any others. Lucky I've got a strong resolve and remind myself of my very tight budget...with my wee man we took the free 6month old shot, went down to PF to pick up, expected the sales pitch, smiled and said oh I wish we could afford it but even with the payment plan we can't...soooo when I asked about booking for all 3 of my kids to have the Father's Day special I was told that because my son had just had the free one that we would have to wait 3 whole months to qualify for another free one...go figure, all about the money aye....

I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND PIXIFOTO!!

The photos they took came out really amateur. The We werent centred in the photo and the colours came out very different. (our photos were of graduation so the colour of the hood is really important - the green hood lining came out black).

We were ransomed into purchasing the photo because we couldnt recreate it at a later date because theirs was so bad. We were told we had to buy it right then or else we couldnt have it at all, so we walked away with a very amateur photo for $75.

My digital camera brought the colours up better than their professional studio camera and lighting.

I was so displeased that I wrote a formal complaint. I received a call from their area manager who basically told me i was wrong about everything and that despite not having looked at the photo herself, their photo couldnt possibly be bad. Got off the phone feeling really agitated despite being a calm and understanding person....

Definately would never use their services again. Very disappointing.

OMG Juliaf that is crazy!!!! If it was me I would be inclinded to take it even further. The fact that she told you your where wrong WITHOUT looking at it is disgusting!! Should go in with their photo and one of your at home ones and show them that its crap.

I also think pixifoto is terrible. Never had a good photo from them, and they call and harass me every month or so, wanting me to come back.

I agree totally.. would NOT recommend their service. My son at the time 9mths was not a happy baby at all. the photographer was yelling at him which scared him of course. He was crying while she was stil taking pics i said NO!! we are not doing this anymore no point if he's upset goodness photographer was not baby friendly at all.. i have used Pixi fotos before 8yrs my older two children were born and have never had this problem before.
The experience now with pixifotos has definately lost me as a customer.
