Hey Noodle,

doing ok, have my down moments mainly due to damn headaches . Came home from work yesterday due to headaches and feeling a little nauseus.

Had BT on Tuesday to see if the Gonal F was working, ie had i responded to it, but unfortunately my estrogen levels where still indicating i was down regualated...not good - so they've upped my dosage from 150iu to 225iu and off for another BT tomorrow.

Looks like EC will be more like thurs/fri next week.

Ginger - how are you doing hun?

Hi guys I'm getting from one day to the next which seems to be the best thing I can do. The nausea is a bit of a killer, and I seem to hit the wall mid afternoon and that's me for the rest of the day. I'm amazingly tired, and feeling really drowsy a lot of the time, and I get rashes from the injections which is a bugger. The injections are starting to hurt, which I guess is from bruising, and just part of it all.

But, my down-reg blood test is Monday, so all going well I start Puregon (gonal-f) in about a week.

I said to DH the other day that I'm sure they pump you full of all this crap just so your begging for all the ikky procedures that you were terrified of, just to bring an end to it all!!

Meh - it's not that bad! Just part of the fun! As long as I keep those injections going in every day, I feel like I'm doing something positive and it offsets the other stuff. Believe me, you'll understand very soon yourself!!

I set an alarm on my phone for my injection time - "Mr Sunshine" by the killers. It's not really appropriate, but the whole sunshine thing as you stab yourself amuses me. It's either that or manah manah by the muppets

Thanks for your thouts everyone, and melly I have everything crossed that the increased dose of gonal f does the thing. How was today's BT?

Am waiting for a call from FA at the moment, hopefully all has gone ok and we'll be on to the next step.

Completely understand about the tiredness Ginger, most nights i come home from work and crash for about 45 mins...the other day it was an hour & a half and I still went to bed at 9.30 that night

Have decided to take today and all of next week off work, part of next week was organised to be off anyway cos of EC - but i can't cope with work and my emotions at the moment, i am sure it's the increased dosage but i've been in tears the last couple of days and just can't do it. So on the couch or in bed i'll be taking it easy and trying to steer clear of the PC as i tend to check in on work emails....

Work has been very supportive about it though which is a big help - they almost bundled me out the door at 11am this morning.

Will let you know BT results when they come in.

Glad all is going well Ginger and not long now noodle till your orientation

melly! That's great news!! I had my first BT this morning (for baseline) - 40 minutes waiting though just as well I was there at 7.20am or I'd have been screwed!! My boss said I should go at about half eight - not likely if the bloods have to be done by 9!

We'll see how they go anyway. AF arrived yesterday and this morning I hurt from head to toe with it AF on Buserelin is NOT nice. Gave myself a wicked injection bruise the day before yesterday - not sure what I did wrong but obviously something!

Ginger - the headaches are not flash aye...and add AF to that.. I think you may have knicked a blood vessel therefore the bruise, am sure this won't make you feel any better but you'll end up with more - I have

Heard from FA yesterday and I don't need a second scan, still having BT tomorrow morning, then will hopefully be told to have trigger injection tomorrow night...fingers crossed anyway. Have been extremely achy in the ovary region, especially this morning.

Have a quiet day planned today, looking forward to it - may even bake DH some muffins

Ah ha! Good thought re the blood vessel melly - that would explain why it bled quite a bit and it really hurt. Typical ... I have no co-ordination at all, but I manage to hit an incy wincy blood vessell with an incy wincy needle!

I am drinking sooo much water to combat the headaches - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm managing to stay away from painkillers though, just in case it does anything. I don't think it would, but you know! You get a bit worried about these things this far down the track.

I start Puregon on about Thursday I think, so will hopefull be able to let that settle into my system over the weekend I'm not looking forward to 2 stab holes a day though Still, I'm 1/3 of the way there, and you've only got about a 1/3 of the way to go!! Yay us!!

you guys are doing soooooo well!

good luck for your blood test tomorrow melly! exciting having the trigger injection tomorrow night! enjoy your day today relaxing!

the blood labs in the morning are mad aye ginger! its quite good having the fluro boxes on the blood forms but saying fax results the same day because they make sure they have sucked ya blood before 9 hehe hopefully your blood results are good and your body is doing what it is suppose to be and you can start your next lot of injections towards the end of the week! I'm sure having 2 jabs will be ick but just think you are moving onto the next stage and soon it will be all over

OUCH bout the blood vessel and brusing

I love reading your guys progress and do think you are both doing really well! i'm sure in a few months time i will be digging up this thread just to see if how i'm feeling is 'normal' lol

Apart from the horrid headaches and a few bruises I've coped relatively well...haven't been too grumpy or moody, mind you my workmates may say something different - especially the one I made cry on thursday (think she has other things going on too) . Hence me taking this week off work, wasn't coping too well with the stress of work, headaches, not being able to concentrate etc - seeing i've come this far and i really want this to work first time round, it was time for me to look out for me, plus DH told me he didn't want me going in this week.

DH has been sooo supportive, he's done the majority of the injections (I've done probably 1/4 of them), been my shoulder to cry on etc.

Anyway as you said we're both over the halfway hurdle. I am quite excited now i've seen the follicles and that the drugs are finally working, only a couple of days to go till EC..

I'm just hyperventilating at the moment that there may be a follicle, and that they may pull the plug, and then boom! My first cycle is over.

I'd braced myself for everything except it going wrong this early I didn't even think to ask at orientation what would happen if down regulation didn't Maybe they'll just up my drugs? Except if there's a follicle growing, then that doesn't deal with the follice

Bollocks!

more 's ginger!

I dont know if this will help but i just had a look at my IVF treatment info booklet and it says........ 'if the levels of hormones do not down regulate as expected, it may be nessary to have a scan and to continue administering Buserelin for longer before starting stimulation injections. This usually means youe egg collection will be delayed'. I hope this is what is going to happen for you I really really hope they dont cancel the round.

Thanks noodle! I lost my book (I know, I know. Completely useless!!) in the midst of the renovation chaos - methinks it's somewhere in our garage amongst all the furniture Anywho - it obviously meant I couldn't look anything up.

So, we're hoping for no follicle (please, please, please no follicle!) and *gulp* I guess just more Buserelin.

In the meantime, DH has completely screwed his back and can't move, which is a distraction if nothing else! Poor DH!!

I beat you to the trigger injection melly

Unfortunately though, for me, it's because I have to start over There were 4 follicles - 1 really big one. It took 2 specialists scratching their heads to decide that what seems to have happened, they think, because it's very abnormal, is that I've ovulated, not downregulated, continued growing other follicles, but still had a period even with the follicles growing

So, one trigger injection later, I'm starting again and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that I don't grow any more damn follicles!

Thankfully, I do get to start straight away. They gave me a trigger injection to ovulate the follicles so I can start again immediately.

Not too keen on that trigger injection though, it was the most painful of the lot. DH had a few attempts at getting it to pierce the skin, then it finally went through - not the kind of problems you want at 11pm at night when there is no one around to help.....got a bit panicky but all ok.

Posted By: ginger
Date Posted: 02 April 2008 at 10:30am
Hmmm ... mine yesterday was fine (aside from the massive hormone surge! ), but your problems would explain why the nurse had a death-grib on my stomach and threw it in there dart-style! I just looked at the ceiling while she was doing it (have taken to giving myself my injections with my eyes closed - seems to hurt less that way! ) so I didn't see if it was a much bigger needle or not. I'm guessing so though because the Buserelin needles are the finest gauge of needle you get.

I'm doing ok - we just kept the Buserelin going right through the trigger period. I think the plan was that the trigger would cause the follicles to ovulate and the Buserelin would, everything crossed, mean that there would be no chance for more follicles to grow. Whether it works remains to be seen - my next BT for down-reg is the 15th.

In the meantime, I feel completely horrible and I'm taking that as a good sign that the Buserelin is actually doing what it's supposed to this time.

How are things with you melly? How are things developing?

Hey Ginger, glad they kept you on Buserelin, just wasn't sure if you had to stop and start.

I would agree, if you are feeling as terrible as it sounds then it will be working - I was terrible on it, just wait till you start puregon, mind you I was on Gonal F so you may be ok. As I've mentioned I had the final week of work as headaches and tiredness got the better of me and couldn't concentrate - can't remember what your job is, but mine is solving problems so concentration is a big thing.

I'm pretty lucky with work - they know what I'm doing and although it's not the easiest to take time out, if I need it I'm taking it and that's the end of it.

I think the idea of keeping me on Buserelin was to not give any more follicles a chance to grow. Here's hoping it's worked! Mentally, the injections are getting harder just because I've been doing them for weeks and I feel like they're not getting me anywhere. Silly as it sounds, I feel like when my alarm goes off to remind me to do the Buserelin!

I think I'll be the same Melly - especially since they warn you about that first BT.

Hopefully Thursday is a good sign - it's my birthday! So, obviously the very coolest things happen on that date

The down regulation test results were 'perfect' apparently and I start Puregon ... Thursday! and have my next scan on the 23rd. I was sitting at my desk humming and haaring about whether to ring the hospital (the instructions are for us to ring them), but they rang me while I was giving myself a stress headache They're really lovely at F+. It must suck being them having to give bad news a lot, so giving good news must be really, really nice. I almost want to bake them a batch of brownies for scan date

I am so relieved, and scared, but mostly relieved.

That is awesome news Ginger - congrats on down regulating . I am really happy that you can now move on to the next step - all the best for puregon.

All I can say is listen to your body and if you need to be at home in bed then do it, it took me a while to cotton on to that and that work would still be there but I did.

Am still finding it quite difficult to stay a full day at work, am extremely tired - believe that is due to progesterone. Am usually leaving the office by 4pm but tomorrow i have a function on after work so have decided to start a bit later and see if that helps - well by starting later I mean work from home and be at work at 10.

Thats awesome news Ginger! Hopefully everything goes to plan from here. I really really hope that it does. (OTT, but I've been googling to find stuff for my DH to read to help with the TTC decision for us, and I wanted to say that your "taking life by the ovaries" column was by far the best article I could find so I just wanted to say thanks for being such a great writer and having such an amazing attitude on your rough road to motherhood

And Mellybelly, I wish you the best news in the world tomorrow.

It might have been a bit more helpful rhick if I'd kept writing it ... ahem.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes and good luck - if I can just get through this in one piece (or, potentially 2 pieces ) I'll be happy.

I said to DH last night I was so sorry for not holding up my end around the house at the moment - I'm so shattered all I seem to be able to do is curl up on the couch! He said that was fine - at least I haven't turned into a psycho hose beast Bless! (I got the impression he was wanting to add 'yet' to the end but thought better of it!)

All teh best for today melly - I imagine that the day before the BT will be the worst

I'll be thinking of you all day. DH and I decided when it's our turn I'm going to pick the results up from the hospital in an envelope.

This time tomorrow, you'll know - that is such a huge thought.

well things haven't gone quite to plan this morning.

Had terrible cramps last night, have had a few over the past week but put it down to side effects of constipation . But the pain last night was unbearable and in different locations, of course didn't do anything about it till today...naughty naughty.

Rang MB at FAA, well at home to explain what happened last night, she said to come in as soon as I could for a scan as she thought i may have OHSS. So headed off at 7.30 to FAA but as suggested went and had my BT for pregnancy (the worst BT to date... ), then headed through. Was weighed, haven't put on extra weight, so that is a good sign, then headed back to medlab to have more blood tests then back for a scan.

Definitely have OHSS, NB thinks it is a mild form at the moment, which can be monitored but the BT results this arvo will tell more. So, for now i am back at home, as I was too uncomfortable at work, have had a cartia aspirin and been told to drink lots of water. Am hoping it is a mild form, if it is more severe then I'll be off to hospital and be put on an IV drip and possibly have the fluid drained

For those who don't know what OHSS is, here is a brief description. Ovary Hyper Stimulation Syndrome, where fluid moves from the blood into the abdommen or at worst lungs. Apparently a mild form occurs in 20% of women who go through IVF and the severe form occurs in about 1%.

So fingers crossed it is just a mild form.

Have requested our pregnancy BT results by phone after 4.00pm kind of wish it was as your getting yours Ginger, didn't think of that, cos I've actually dreamt that's how i find out...

Sorry for the long novel

thanks guys - lying down seems to help, just uncomfortable getting up to go to loo.

on a good note the specialist said, and i read in the notes, you generally only suffer from this if your pregnant... trying not to get hopes up, but sounds positive, will wait for phone call before i get too excited.

OHSS?! Argh!! I'd have thought the danger would be past by now apparently NOT! Still if it means you're pg ... well it's a good trade isn't it??! I have everything crossed ... which also makes it uncomfortable (and interesting) getting up and going to the loo

And Charly? Almost! DH had taken the last of the bread to work last night and was late home so there was no toast for brekkie! So, at 6.30am, I was eyeing up my birthday cake ...

ok this may be a really dumb question but while you were being scanned why didnt they look to see if you were preggie or would it be to early to see anything even on a scan?
Fingers crossed for this arvo

not sure what you'd see - just had a tummy scan, concentrated more on lower and upper abdomen and sides. he may have but just didn't confirm his suspiscions as i was on my own and DH and I want to find out together. there were lots of hints when talking though.....trying not to get excited till bloods.....
