I know the topic subject might seem a little strange, but I figured it would at least catch everyone's attention !

Anyway, I'll get the "celebrity" bit out of the way first - I had to work today and it was SO quiet... so one of my coworkers gave me one of her gossip mags to read. Now, I hate Britney Spears with a burning passion, but I *know* she could do better than Kevin F-wit. So then I read today that she is possibly pregnant again !?!?! I was like, "WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE YOU THINKING !?!?!"... Maybe it's my own crazy pregnancy hormones, but she's got a crummy, sleazy, good-for-nothing gold-digging husband, a five month old baby boy, and she thinks another one will fix it !?!?! That just does my head in. Most of the stuff I read in these mags drives me a bit crazy actually, but I can't seem to wean myself off them LOL

So the "kidneys" bit I wanted to ask you ladies about is not actually referring to myself, but rather to the baby. When we went for our anatomy scan the sonographer didn't seem to think it was cause for alarm, and said 'yes' when I asked her if it was fairly common. One of the kidneys was a fair bit smaller than the other - I can't remember the exact measurements and I don't have a copy of the report in front of me, but I think the difference was quite significant, one being about 2-3x bigger than the other I'm planning to bring it up with my midwife when I see her on Wednesday, and I'm hoping she will see it as reason enough to agree to refer me for another scan. I know I raved on about wanting to push for another one just to find out what gender baby will be, but at the same time, I am a lot more concerned about whether or not things are developing properly.

Have any of you gals come across this / had the same issue ??

I also got a letter in the mail from the hospital after my midwife referred me to a specialist for a cardiology checkup - about 3-4 years ago I had minor heart surgery, and even though it was just to correct a rapid heartbeat, we're having it checked out just in case. The only bit I was puzzled by when we last talked about it is she talked about antibiotic 'cover' for the baby (during the birth)... and when I thought about it, I couldn't connect exactly why we'd need to do it / how it would be done ?? Can anyone shed light on that as well??

Anyway, I think those are my main moans for now I finally have a day off tomorrow... YAY !

Jax

Well don't worry...i read somewhere else that Britney Spears has denied she is pregnant...I can't vouch for the whether or not the bubs will be taken off her following her driving down the motorway with him on her lap though.

As for the kidney issue i have no idea if this is normal or not but hopefully your midwife will be to sort you out.

Good luck.

When I was pregnant with Jake, one of his kidney's was also enlarged. They said not to worry, so what did i do? Freaked out!! Called the midwife who said that it was really common in little boys especially (could be a hint!!), but that in very rare cases, it could result in one needing to be drained - which, while not pleasant, is a relatively minor procedure. Then she said that the baby (at that point sex unknown) would be scanned at 3 days and that in 90% of cases, everything would be completely normal....and it was/ Although the scan happened at three weeks - good ol' Palmy hosptial.

I have 2 friends whose bubs had kidney probs that they picked up in the scans. They monitored them really well and one of my friends boys was fine and my other friends boy had an operation when he was about 2 or 3 (it was kidney reflux) and hes good as gold. As long as they keep monitoring you all will be fine. Just remember to ask them heaps of questions so you know whats going on.
