Just heartbreaking. They are interviewing a Southland couple whose healthy baby girl was basically killed by an incompetent doctor who already had 4 malpractice suits against him in the US. He used excessive force with the ventouse which resulted in bleeding in the brain and also managed to rip the umbilical cord from the baby's body. The poor thing was literally torchered..They showed a photo of her and her eyes were just full of blood

yeah unfortunately I saw a little bit of it including the photo. I say unfortunately because I'm such a softie I was planning to skip that item but managed to catch it while channel surfing. Very sad.

It was a horrible story wasnt it? The father said the doc pulled so hard on the ventouse that the mum was pulled down and off the end of the bed! It is just disgusting that he basically got away with it, as he went back to america and resigned here, tho is practising again I think.

That was so sad. I cried when the mother was saying that the worst thing was picturing how much pain the baby would've been in. How truly awful for them

Lucky the father was holding the wife or else she would of flown off the bed... how horrible is that, worst thing is they blame themselves causing their babies pain as they didn't stop the doctor - but thing is when its your first you just dont know if you are just over reacting. Something they will blame themselves for the rest of their lives , so sad

So close to home for me, having a ventouse birth & Drs/Registrars using a lot of force also (although not to the extent of what happened in that case). I personally didn't pay much attention to what was going on but Mum & Dad were at the other end of the bed watching and she was mortified at how rough they were tugging on bubs head, and 'manhandling' the situation! ...she was in total shock when she saw his mishapen head after the birth!

So much for Ventouse being 'soft vaccuum'!

Very incredibly sad what happened to that couples baby, I was in tears also ...that Dr. should have known better!

That story bought back so many memories for me as I too had a horrendous ventouse birth with Lauren, luckily she only received superficial damage, but all the same it was not nice on my poor new little babys head. It was and still is my worst nightmare. Ventouse is NOT a soft vacuum on the babies head, Lauren had bad bruising and the skin on her head was red raw with abrasions.

I will NEVER let them do that to me again

i watched in horror too....that pic of little ella was so heartbreaking. her eyes were so dark, poor wee thing. i cried throughout the whole story, i felt for them, blaming themselves like that, totally heartbreaking and outrageous situation.

charli was a failed vontouse delivery, ending in c/s and her head was sooooo red and bruised when she came out, but you put so much trust in these so called 'specialists' that are there to help you and baby
