Just wondering how long it took for your cycle to regulate after stopping the pill? I have taken it for 10yrs and stopped it only a month ago. Started charting first day of AF but this was my "pill period" i.e withdrawl bleed so does that make it inaccurate??

I don't know the answer to this, sorry, but just wanted to say that I'm interested in the responses to this too. I'm currently trying to decide when is the best time to come off the pill myself.
Plus I wanted to say welcome and good luck to Mrs B, hopefully its not long before you are in the pregnancy threads!

Hi Guys,
I am new to this too but came off the pill in Feb and my first period in March was pretty much regular. I normally have a 30 day cycle but this one was 34 days.
I had been on the pill for 12 years but mine was the mini pill so may be a bit different.

Just wanted to say that I stopped the pill after tkaing it for around 6 years and had the one period before getting pregnant... So if this is not quite your plan then be careful... We didn't think it would happen that quickly, but were really pleased.
Best of Luck to all of you

Well actually we were not planning on TTC until the end of the year but I had heard it can take up to 6mths for you body to regulate itself so stopped taking the pill after we got married at the end of February. So I started charting then and haven't had a period since but have used condoms so NO I'm not pregnant!

I think the ususal advice is to be pill free for 3 - 6 months prior to TTC, at least that's what my GP told me. During that time I took my folic acid, reviewed my diet and reduced my alcohol intake to get as fit as I could for pregnancy. I had been on the pill continuously for 15 years and it took about 6 months for me to feel my cycles had come back to normal (whatever that is after 15 years) and another 3 months to fall pregnant - having said that I was 36 when we started TTC, so not sure if that has some bearing on 6 months to conceive. Midwife told me that it wouldn't be unusual for it to take up to a year at my age with my pill history
Good luck

I've been on Femodene for 15 years. Came off it nearly a month ago and my body is way up the wazoo. I'm not going to chart until I get my first real period as the doc told me the withdrawal bleed is just the reaction to stopping the pill. Not a real period as you don't get real ones on the pill. Chemically altered so i'm waiting till nature kicks in or charting from now probably wont tell me anything I can rely on.

I was the same, had been on the pill about 10yrs, stopped at the beginning of July, had AF later that month, got pregnant August. I too had thought it would take a few months after being on the pill so long, I guess we are all just different

My first period off the pill went for 47 days with a really short luteal phase but since that they have been pretty regular. I think it is very variable with best case scenario your cycle is regular right away and worst case scenario it can take over a year to settle down. Makes it difficult to plan, I know but my experience of ttc is that there are a lot of things that are outside your control so you can only plan so much.

The million dollar question! I came off 3 months before TTC cos I wanted some chemical free periods and to get used to my cycle. Ended up with 1 28 day cycle, then a 56 day cycle, then got pregnant (as planned). It seems every GP advises differently. I know someone in the past has mentioned if you're happy to come off and not use other contraceptives, it could take a while and it could happen straight away, so if you want a bit more time before conceiving, I recommend other methods!!

I'm similar to some of the others, was on the pill for about 10 years, first cycle off it was 40 days (counting from last pill period) then had 2 28 days and last month was 26, on day 25 now so could be any day but hoping not at all :)

I too am interested in this topic. DH and I plan to start TTC later this year. Ive been on the pill for almost 10 years. Its such an unpredictable topic, but great to hear how its worked for others!
My question is, whats the difference between the normal pill and the mini pill and how do you know which one your on???

Progestin-Only Pill (POP), commonly called the "mini-pill," is different from combined birth control pills in that they contain only one hormone (progestin) instead of two (progestin and estrogen).

On the mini pill you still ovulate (I think) but the progesterone makes your CM thicker and other things that make it difficult for the sperm and ova to meet up and dance. You take it every day, there are no inactive sugar pills to give you a withdrawal bleed and you may or may not have a bleed (as I found out at 5 months after having Fay and being in a blind panic as I had not bled since being on this pill. You have to take it within a 3 hour period from yesterday
The Combined pill stops you ovulating at all, You take it for 21 days and then have a 7 day withdrawal bleed (if you want to)

I had been told the whole 3-6 month thing as well - I got pregnant within two weeks of coming off my pill after using it for the last ten years or so. I have heard so many different stories which suggest that it really is down to the individual more than anything else. I wish there was a more concrete way to know!

My GP did recommend taking folic acid as soon as you stop, as you can get pregnant straight away.
I guess it depends on your cycles before you were on the pill. Mine were regular as and have been regular when I'm not taking the pill.
Oh and hello NZWP 08 brides,
We'll be TTC next year and I will be 36, got to recover the savings after the wedding first.

Danaj yep I was on NZWP and lurked around on other wedding sites every now and again hehe. I remember seeing something about someone getting married at the Zoo. Good on you! I bet it was a fab day.
So good to see other NZWP ladies here, can be a bit daunting to start with!
Oh BTW thanks ladies for clarifying that. I guess I am on the normal pill, 21 days white and 7 reds. On the pill I think my cycle is 24 days (still getting use to all this PG terminalogy and abbreviations ). I dont remember what it was before I went on to it so it will be interesting when I eventually come off.
