Or am I the only geek??

I'm currently on a 5 day trial and I'm the foreman (yeah yeah no references to my last name thanks! Just call me Madam Foreman like the rest of the court hehehe) and I'm really enjoying the whole experience. It's my second time serving on a jury but the first time the case was dismissed halfway through, mis-trial.

Has anyone else served and enjoyed it or am I just a sick individual?

Hey hon, thought you'd enjoy it. I think i would but I've only been called once, when we were in the UK and I didn't have any childcare so was excused. It was the high court too so it would've been interesting.
It would make an interesting change from work!

I've never been called..... but yeah I think I would enjoy it! It would certainly be an experience. Although I've heard there's lots of waiting around and that could get boring.

My DH got a jury duty letter a couple of weeks ago, but he got off... something about working in news got him out of it....

Ohhhhh it is a very nice change for work that's for sure!!

And there can a bit of waiting around...when you are being balloted, when the jury is being selected, when the crown and the counsel want to rip each other throats out over a technical point and the jury has to leave the room....

I haven't been asked and prob would try and get excused cos of being self employed, but J did it a couple of years ago and I think he quite enjoyed it.

Hello

Depends on the case i suppose. There's the one about the gang-shooting of the little girl in Wanganui going on at the moment in Welly - wouldn't like to be on the Jury of that one . . .

Yeah you're right Susiec, I would find it really really difficult to be on the jury of any awful crimes like that.

I did about 2 years ago. Ours was a very icky trial - step dad had been sexually abusing his partners girl who was under the age of 12 at the time. I think if it wasn't about that kind of thing then I would have enjoyed it more. But our foreman was a dick and going down on huge tangents that had nothing to do with what we were trying to decide as the jury. Several of us just wanted to hit the man

I had an icky case too when I did it several years ago - it was a rape case and it was her word against his because she didn't come forward straight away so there was no physical evidence. It took the jury ages to decide the verdict which sucked, I thought it was cut and dry and on the last day (which happened to be St Pat's) we'd be in the pub drinking by midday but a few jury members disagreed and we ended spending all day and half the night in the little box of a room deliberating.

I was called again when I was 6 months preg but I was already huge and put my waddle on so the lawyers rejected me as I was going to the seats. Did enjoy waiting around reading a book and the slow sloooow walk back to work (via several stores).

I think I'd love it coz I'm nosy lol, but I've never been called and even if I did I'd probably be turned down coz of my profession, us journo's apparently don't make good jurors

Well I've told everyone that a fast deliberation is a good deliberation but I have a feeling we'll be scrapping it out for while...we'll see...still a couple of days of testimony to go.

BS- my power plate trainer is bummed as well...she is an ex cop so suspects she'd be rejected on those grounds.

Yip I enjoyed doing jury duty. Was a drug case for 2 people and our case made it in the paper on the first day as we were the first jury to delivery a guilty verdict on the 1st person without hearing the evidence (long story). On the 2nd person we ended up being a hung jury....which was a bit of a pain. but yeah...i found a good experience and something a bit different to do.

I like jury duty = great snacks. And case involved neighbours and a goat ... also they were on 'Neighbours at War' about another incident.

I was jumping up and down on the couch with excitement shrieking about the 'mentalist' neighbour basking in the glow of seeing someone in person who's been on telly!?! How sad am I?

Been called once, was 5 months preggy and on teaching placement so was a no-go. Turned out it was for a high court hearing so I'm glad I didn't do it. Would've been far too long for my pee-every-5-minutes body to take

Haha, I have never been called as I live outside the 30km zone. Phew

I was called once, when Conor was 9mths old. I managed to get out of it because I was a single mum, etc.

I haven't been called since. I'd probably get out of it again because of the children.

I got called up twice in 6 months, served once and got out of the 2nd one. Think that my name has been taken off the register for at least the next 5 years now, (as when I said that I had already been called recently, they said they will take me off so it doesnt happen again!)

I love it, but then I am naturally a curious (okay nosey) person! Luckily the case I was on wasnt an ickey one, it was a firearms charge, so quite interesting. I do have a close girlfriend who is a criminal defense lawyer, so my fear was always that I would have to excuse myself if she was the lawyer!!

Well it is looking like we might be over and done tomorrow but depends on how the last of the witnesses go and the summing up etc....either way I think there is going to be a scrap in deliberations.

I got called up when Andrew was 3 weeks old, got out of that easy. I would like to sit on a jury I think it would be interesting but I wouldn't want it to be a sexual case thou I couldn't let my personal feeling come through.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
