I am feeling so guilty about the fact that I just spent $260 on a pair of boots at lunchtime and am currently thinking up ways to avoid telling DH exactly how much they cost!

He was aware I was looking for boots, but my issue is that these boots are red. All well and good. Problem is that DH bought me a pair of red boots a year or so ago that I have only worn about 3 times and he keeps asking me to wear them. They are a tad small and I find they are a bit uncomfy all day. Plus, now, they are out of style.

Does anyone else do this? Or am I just the only evil one?!

OOOh where to start? The number of things that i just haven't worn for ages - or that I lent someone ages ago and they have just returned them. I am lucky as Neil just doesn't pay attention to things. What are the chances of DH not noticing the new red boots aren't the ones he bought you and selling the too small ones on tM to help your conscients(sorry cannot work out how to spell that)
Good luck

When it comes to shoes DH is quite aware that by letting me go near a shoe shop he's just asking for trouble (and $260 is really good for a decent pair of boots).

Rather than avoiding telling DH I would be more inclined to encourage him to pop out and spend a couple of hundred on something he wants so I don't feel guilty.

You could always remind him that you just recently bought him the TV.

Haha, good point about the TV, although I have to admit that I love it too (and watching a friends baby sized TV the other day was awful!). He is really onto it with regards to noticing new stuff, which can be a blessing and a curse.

I know I shouldn't feel guilty about spending money on myself cause I actually dont buy much that often but you know how you feel that you could have perhaps used the money better? Nevermind, its done now. I will front up and be honest I think and yes, I think he can also spend some $$ on himself.

And I can tell him they were only 260 rather than the 499 pair I was looking at yesterday - what a bargain!

I move round numbers a bit like yesterday I said I spent $250 at the supermarket and $20 at the mall when it was more like $230 at the supermarket and $40 at the mall

Wash your mouth out!! You bought shoes (red boots no less) what on earth could be a better use of money?!!

*gags the practical side of me that suggests groceries, nappies, gumboots for Michaela etc*

I like the old 'they were on sale' line myself if DH has a heart attack. And, it's not lying ... I mean, let's face it, if it's in a shop, it's on sale isn't it?

LOL always a good one I have used this successfully as well.

I have also used the "what do you mean I told you months or weeks ago I was getting these. You never listen to me". All the while feigning annoyance.

Quite frequently now when he spots something new he just says it looks nice so he doesn't get into trouble.

I spent $200 at JK today and you can bet I won't be letting Willie in on it, luckily he doesn't pay much attention to the kids wardrobes so he probably won't even notice...

Oh no Emma! I tripped in PP today too. I usually flatly refuse to pay their prices but, well, not today it would appear. Not $200 though! Mind you I only have 1 to buy for. Mmm, grey and pink clothes.

Not only that, but I then tripped in Susan and got myself the dressing gown I've been coveting for 2 years!

I won't be offering the $$ info to DH unless he asks specifically.

Yay for a new dressing gown for Elle to put breakfast all over!
I did well for my $200 I think, I got a merino wrap, merino pants, top and cardie for bub, plus a winter hat for each gremlin and a jumper for each of the three big girls.

OMG I totally am in LOOOOVE with their range at the moment. All the colours are just adorable!!!!! I tripped in there today but couldn't find the hat I was looking for so sulked out again.

I am one for bargain shopping so there's probably no way I'd pay $260 for boots. I always offer price information because I shop for bargains, but if I bought boots for $260, then I might skirt around it a little! Though knowing the prices of boots, $260 seems pretty reasonable!

I skirt round it then eventually fess up feeling really guilty but DH is usually pretty good! I always do the "well, I've been looking for ages and these were a GREAT deal and the other ones I have don't work because .... and I'll put next week's spending money toward it ...." - he sits there laughing, knowing I'm just trying to make sure I'm in his good books!

Also love (some of) the baby clothes in JK and PP but can't bring myself to pay that much money! Poor child will be a TM baby.

Nothin wrong with TM shopping, I spent ages trying to find a pair of jeans for Michaela but didn't like the ones in PP or JK so ended up buying a really cute pair off TM. I them.

PP is making a bomb out of me atm, I have brought too much of their new season stuff. Michaela has 3 new dresses (my fav is the black one with pink flowers emboidered all over), 3 new t-shirts and a really cute pair of grey velour trackpants with pink stripes down the side. Luckily Nana paid for most of it.

Hehe it would prob be the other way round in saying that tho We never have anywhere near 200 a week jsut to spend as we don't have a CC and zfter all our AP's come out there is only just enough for Petrol grocery's etc.
I am total lost on TM when it comes to cloth's never have much luck at finding anything.

I ended up leaving them at work last night then having a chat with him. It went like this:

Me: What would you say if I found a really fantastic pair of boots today?

DH: How much are they gonna cost me?

Me: Hang on, what if I told you I found a fantastic pair of boots today but they are red?

DH: What is wrong with the red boots I bought you???!!! You haven't worn them!

Me: Yes I know and I plan to but I really like these other boots and they are so stylish plus I can wear them with skirts cause they are tall boots - those red ones you bought me are lovely but they are just ankle ones. I will wear them tho.

DH: Ok, so again, how much are they gonna cost me?

Me: $260.

DH: Oh, that is a great price - I thought you were looking at ones that were $500!

Me: I was, but these are a really good compromise and exactly what I want.

DH: Ok, so buy them - some women have 20-30 pairs of shoes for work. How many do you have? 5??

Me: Sweet, Ill pop out and get them tomorrow.

LOLOLOL! I am wearing them now and OMG, they are so comfy.

I felt that I had to tell him because they are kind of obvious and cost a lot. Just a slight bending of the truth.

But they do look good. Have had so many compliments (and just went to the bathroom and stopped to look at them in the full length mirror on the way out).

Well worth it!

I was just more worried about him bringing up the red boot thing, which he did.

Glad it went well for you!

DH could care less what I spend on things. He alwasy tells me to get what I want as long as I am happy. He knows that I manage the money anyway so i would only spend what can be afforded.

I would tell him if he asked, sometimes he does just out of interest, but I don't care as I can tell him the truth. I am a lousy liar anyway.

We don't have too much issue with how much we spend on ourselves because we have a spending allowance each. Helped a lot.

But as for the original question, I do struggle to tell my DH totally honestly what I think of his actions at times. Cause I don't wanna hurt him
