My daughter really caught me off guard this morning, we were walking past the fire station up the road from us and they had the flag at half mast, anyway the guys had the truck outside and were doing there normal testing that they do every morning on the truck. Anyway there was one for the guys out there and she walk up to him and said something like "My name is Nyah and I just want to say that I am very sad that your friends are hurt and please be careful when you go to fires". The mans eyes welled up as did mine and he leant down and gave her a hug and we carried on with me crying into my sunglasses. She turned around and the guy was still standing there and they waved and we turned the corner. Damn shes amazing.

Oh and...It was like I was watching a movie.. I felt completely removed from the whole thing.. still well up when I think about it.

The things is I didn't even know that she knew about the fire. Maybe they talked about it at school...or she took it all in when we've been watching the news.

I think the reason she walked up to that guy is we see them every morning, today was the first day that we've walked to school since the fire, so I'm guessing she saw the opportunity and went for it. She has no problems with shyness that's for sure!
