Last week plunket line suggested I change my bubs routine to solids before her milk. So far she seems to be coping but is only drinking between 400-500 mls over the day, and the reccommended amount is 600mls. Her day goes like this: 7am Breakfast - cereal, fruit and toast 8.30 Milk 9 am bed 10 am - wakes (a catnap child!) Give her a drink of water and snack in here 11-30 - 12 Lunch 1.30 bed (only sleeps an hour) 3pm Milk Has a snack in here somewhere - depends on her 5.30 Dinner 7 pm Milk and bed Plunket said not to give her milk in her mid day wake time but have been giving her a bottle to help build up milk amount What routines do other people have? Needing to see if on the right track. Also any suggestions for sleeping longer during the day. Thanks ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yep that routine sounds good to me! Although ours always has been more like 6.15am- 6.15pm!
Kids sleeps vary heaps tho. Isla has never slept longer than 11 1/2-12 hrs at night, and 2 hrs in the day sounds good to me! But I think the recommneded is 1 1/2 hrs twice. No idea how to stretch it out tho. |

How old is your bubs? Ella's routine is Between 5-6am- milk and then back to sleep don't know how many mls she is currently drinking as she is b/f but I have got told by plunket to drop a feed...but I can't see that happening in the near future. No ideas sorry how to extend the daytime sleeps, Ella seems to go through cycles where sometimes she will only sleep for 45 mins and other times will sleep up to 2 21/2 hrs (no rhyme or reason to it). ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

| That sounds almost exactly like Daniels routine apart from the night bedtime. When he was doing catnaps like that I put him to bed before 6:30pm. Now though I have extended out his naps to be from 10am-11:15 and 2:30-4pm |

That sounds similar to our routine (we have just started solids before milk and its going well). Bella's routine is something like this...
6-6.30am Wake and breakfast 7.30 - 8am Bottle (200mls) 9am Nap 10.30am Snack 11.30am Lunch 12.30pm Bottle (200mls) 2-3pm Nap 3-4ish Snack 5.30pm Dinner 6.30pm Bottle (200mls) and bed Lots of water offered throughout the day too (at every meal and snack time) She has put on over a kilo in the last month since the change, so I'm happy. As for the day sleeps, can't help you - Bella is a crap sleeper during the day, but sleeps 12 hours at night, so I guess there has to be a bit of give and take!! Kate is eight months, she sleeps through the night so shouldn't worry about huh?
Kate will only have 100-150 mls at any one milk feed. Before we changed she was having 4 bottles of 150-180mls. Has never drunk 200mls consistently, so I suppose I can't really expect her to do so now either. Thanks for sharing your routines - has put my mind to rest. |

We are still giving Sam 4 bottles as she only drinks about 100-150ml per bottle. She has between 500-600mls in total a day too.
Plunket has told us to drop a bottle, but I just nodded at them and then did what is best for Sam. It sounds like Kate's routine and intake is just fine to me  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Spencer's rough routine
7.30am Bottle (180-200ml) 8.30am Breakfast 10am bed 11.30am awake 12pm lunch 1pm bottle (180-200ml) 1.30pm bed 4pm awake 5pm Dinner 6-7pm bottle and bed (180-200ml We only went down to 3 bottles last weekend up until then he was still having a bottle normally in the afternoon but sometimes in the morning depending on how the day was going. Also some days Spencer only has the afternoon nap and sometimes that nap doesn't last very long. Yesterday across the whole day he only had one nap of 1.5hrs, I just think that they are starting to not need the sleep as much everyday. He had more naps today and always naps well on Monday after swimming.  -------------

Interesting to see everyones routines, I am still giving milk before solids but think i will change soon. Also nice to see that others have little darlings who don't have big sleeps during the day. Lachie is good at night and has 2 one hour sleeps a day. He wakes up happy so I have got over worrying about it. But I hope that he might stretch them out sometime - probably dreaming! -------------

The only thing I would suggest is that you give an extra bottle before the second nap, to get an extra 100mls into bubs. Milk before bed is also a good sleep association at this age I find. -------------

You could try doing milk before breakie for a while still. Thats what I do (but more because its still a BF and I can do it in bed). If you do dinner slightly earlier that may get her to take more at the last feed too. Or just add formula on the cereal and some other dairy products like yoghurt/cheese. 500-600mls is fine, so I wouldn't worry as long as its about 500mls in total. Jakes a little older but has had this routine for about a month or so: (very much like Spencers actually)
6.45/7am - Up and breastfeed 8am - Breakfast (Cereal, toast, fruit) 9.45/10am - Morning Tea (Yoghurt / dairy food) 10-12 - Nap 12.30 Lunch (Meat/veges, dessert/fruit/mashed banana and avocado, curskets / crackers plus other finger food) 2ish - Bottle 2.30-3.30 - Nap 3.30/4 - Afternoon Tea (rice crackers / apple juice "ice block" / bikkies / fruit) 5pm - Dinner (Meat and veges, finger food etc) 6.30 - bath 6.45/7pm - Bottle and bed. He is also getting ready for one nap I think -- he was doing about 1.5 hours in the morning - but now its 2-2.5 hours most days .... and his afternoon nap can be as short as 20 mins in the car some days (but usually an hour if we're at home). ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |

I found that when I swapped to solids first Spencer just dropped the morning bottle and then a little while later when eating more at meals and snacks he dropped the afternoon one. I would just follow his cues and expect that sometimes that may still want extra bottles, like when they are ill and don't each as much solids etc. -------------

he loves his milk! He goes crazy for it first thing in the morning, do you think it would be ok to try miss the 11oclock bottle? he doesnt seem to be particularly interested in that one and I could do an earlier lunch ? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yeah try it and see, if you drop the bottle he may eat more solids for lunch and you can always offer him water at 11.
I still give Spencer milk first thing in the morning, if I turned up without a bottle he would go mental, no way he would let me change his bum and stick him in his highchair for breakfast without having his bottle first!!!! Our routine is one of the ones above. -------------

Kate used to go nuts for her bottle first thing in the morning as well so I was surprised when she wasn't too fazed not having it. She'll even sit happily playing on the floor while I make her breakfast. I literally swapped everything aroung. Sometimes I give her a bottle before her afternoon sleep, sometimes not it really depends on her cues.. I'm finding that she is eating more of her solids now as well. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

our routine now is roughly and very changeable 7pm: Breakfast. a jar and a piece of toast 8.30: sleep 10: bottle when wakes, morning tea if hungry 11.30:lunch usually home cooked meal, sandwiches, fruit 12-3:sleep 3:30ish bottle when wakes and some afternoon tea if hungry 6pm:dinner as family he has whatever we are having basically 7pm:bottle and bed we are still working on the morning tea and afternoon tea thing he is not really interested, i tried bottles an hour after meals but not interested either so thats whats workign for us at the moment for how long who knows... ------------- http://lilypie.com">
