I got it from the library, was very good. A little heavier then her usual stuff. She's one of my fav writers.

I got it last weekend - borders had it on special for $28. Have to say..... not that impressed. I know she prides herself on writing about "difficult" topics with compassion and humour, but quite frankly thought it was just a bit much.

Just my opinion....

Hmm interesting. I found the last one 'is there anybody out there' rather sad and depressing, and didnt really enjoy it that much - its not one I would read again like all the others.

I think I will just buy it! Was willing to wait a few months, but that will take a LONG time!

I did see it at The Warehouse for $24.99on Friday

I brought it from the Warehouse and just finished it. Aimee I was like you and did't really enjoy 'Is anybody out there'. I thought this was a bit better (once I got WELL into it) but I didn't like it as much as I enjoyed her older books. Will be interested what others think when you finish it.

I cancelled my order and just bought it from Paper Plus yesterday. Havent started yet, just need to find some time.

I wish she would write another one about the Walsh family (that is their name isnt it?!). Those ones are the best I reckon.

i loved it but found it a bit slower reading than the other books (but that could be my pregnant brain!!).
I too am hanging out for a Walsh book, I think Helen is the only one left to do? That should be quite a read, maybe that's why she hasn't done it yet. ALhtough with Anna she definitely skipped quite a few years. And then she should do one big Walsh book so we know what happened to all of them eventually

I've just gone and bought this today and I'm sitting at my desk having a little read. I have to hand it over this afternoon to someone else who's reading it first so I'm trying to get a quick little fix.

I love love love her books. I met her years ago and she's such a funny person in real life too.

Watermelon was made into a movie, does anyone happen to know what the name of the movie was?

i adore her writing, and i think the last 2 books she has written have just shown a maturing of her writing style. it is well publicised she is battling infertility, so i guess that is impacting on her whimsical/fun side. she is still laugh out loud funny though. even Angels was getting a bit heavier than previous.

i liked this charming man, she dealt with the subject matter very very well.

i've nearrrrlly finished This Charming man, and i loved it,she wrote about domestic abuse and alcoholism really well i thought (wonder how much of the alcohol part related to her own personal experience)
Loved Lola and Grace the most, Marnie annoyed me in parts

Aprilfools-the movie is also called Watermelon and it sucked, they make Claire out to be this real cow who cheated on her husband and got pregnant, it doesnt have Helen in it, her parents are boring and Anna is really plain and not ditzy or funny at all.

Re Helen Walsh , i dont know that Marian (i'll just call her Marian cos even tho i only met her once i *know* we are friends forever , lol) would do a story on her.
See the other sisters had faults and had a lesson to learn , whereas Helen has faults, certainly ,but doesnt care, so doesnt feel she needs to learn any lessons-i dont really make sense but I know what im trying to say .

Pity , a book about Helen would be hilarious

Lol only just saw this thread, what a blond! I loooooovvvveeee this author, watermelon my fav, my mum got me hooked onto her a few years back. It took me until the angels book to realise she was writing about the same family (again how blond!) I had read watermelon, rachels holiday and angels all out of order as such and didnt click till the 3rd 'walsh' was being talked about hehe.
Another author I would highly recommend if you love Keyes is Patricia Scanlan, more to the point her book 'Francescas Party' I have read it cover to cover so many times now I know it off by heart almost. They are extremely similar writers, both Irish and writing about similar things, above book is about a woman in her 40's finds out her 'perfect marriage' is not so perfect when she catches him cheating, a wee bit similar to the 'growth of self story' in watermelon.
Can't wait to get the new book!
