I have patients and friends siblings at that school , its just tragic.
My partner drove past the school on his way to work , he text to say its packed with police cars and news cars etc.
Very surreal, one of those things you never think will happen to people near you

I can't believe it happened, as you don't hear about things like that happening here in NZ, but it's a reality that they do happen

Gosh April hasn't been a very good month for tragedies has it. I seem to have a permanent lump in my throat, from hearing about people missing, or dying. I don't think I can cope with much more of it to be honest. I just feel for all of the families. I feel very grateful that my 3 kids are safe.

My heart and prayers go out to the school and the all the familiers affected by this tragedy. A lady in my nursing degree, her nephew was on that trip, this morning she was informed to say that he was one of the lucky ones, and then not long before our lecture at 8 she was told he had died. May we also remember the friends and family of the man up north who died on the horse trek.

At the start of my 5th form in Napier there was a major bus accident where they lost 4 students and I think two teachers one of the students had just started her first year there. and one senior girl that is now paralegic and some others had very minor injuries. It is a real tragedy for the teachers, students and parents to go through

Its so weird seeing my buildings (as in the school) that i see everyday, on tv

My heart goes out to teh families but also to the friends and students , quite a few of them who i know as patients at my work.....kids their age shouldnt have to deal with this magnitude of grief

one of the students came in today , and she just looked so shocked, I gave her a big hug and told her everyone was thinking of them

I totally agree, but I am watching cambell live and think really he is doing a pretty ok job and I think the school and families are allowing it if they were not the the media would have been told to get lost by now. again my heart goes out to all involved may their faith strengthen them at this time.

wow it makes it all more real when you see the pictures of the young people and teacher who have lost their lives in such and enormous tragedy, it reminds me of the cave creek disaster, and like someone else said there is just so much tragic things happening and it gets more and more these things do happen in NZ and it really does get worse by the day, certainly makes you treasure what you have

Throughout the day , since hearing of the tragedy , a particular poem has been going through my head, its one a lot of you probably know well, and i hope nobody minds if i put it in my post.
Its very easy , i know at a time like this to blame God and ask him why ,but as ive said, i know a few of the students from the school and as the poem regards God , i think its appropriate

A letter from God to all parents

I'll lend you for a little while
A child of mine God said
For you to love the while she lives
and mourn for when shes dead
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty two or three
But will you , till I call her back
Take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you
And shall her stay be brief
You'll have her lovely memories
As solace, for your grief
I can not promise she will stay
Since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught down here
I want this child to learn

I've searched the whole world over
In my quest for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd lifes lanes
I have selected you
Now will you give her all your love
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when i come to call
to take her back again ?

I fancied that i heard them say
"Dear lord thy will be done
For all the joy this child shall bring
The risk of grief we'll run
We'll shelter her with tenderness
we'll love her while we may
and for the happiness we've known ,
Forever grateful stay
But shall the angels call for her
much sooner than we planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
.........And try to understand "

May the victims rest in peace and their families and friends find comfort in their faith

Thanks for sharing that poem.. I can see why it's been going through your head.

Yeah I've been really emotional all day. I think it's great how the school is handling it though. It's a lot to come to terms with and process.

If anyone's interested, http://www.lifefm.co.nz/default.asp?PageID=4 - Life FM is doing an hour of talkback specifically about the tragedy - on air now (8pm onwards). You can listen online or click on the link for frequencies.

DH went to the school this morning to film for work, he said it was very somber and it made for a very hard day for him.

A mate of mine (who used to go to Elim) posted these song lyrics on his blog... very appropriate...

David Crowder Band - You Never Let Go

When clouds veil the sun, and disaster comes
Oh, my soul
When waters rise, and hope takes flight
Oh, my soul

Ever faithful, ever true
You I know
You never let go

When clouds brought rain, and disaster came
Oh, my soul
When waters rose, and hope had flown
Oh, my soul

Oh, my soul overflows
Oh, what love, oh, what love
Oh, my soul
Fills with hope
Perfect love that never lets go

In joy and pain
In sun and rain
You’re the same
Oh, You never let go

The song that keeps going through my head is one by Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman, it's one that really is one thing that the family and friends can hang on too...

I've included a link to a youtube video that uses the song in case anyone just wants to hear the song itself...

http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf-wQwYf6gQ&feature=related - With Hope

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
(There's a place by God's grace)
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father's smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...

We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so ...

So we can cry with hope
And say goodbye with hope

We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope
