For all you ladies who have been pregnant (So a majority of this site!)did anything happen to your hair when you were first pregnant?

I have heard you go through a 'stage' of good hair and nails but did anyone have bad hair or anything else happen when you were first pregnant?

Just curious....

Thanks,

I know my neighbour's hair fell out and that was through her whole pregnancy - she said it came out in handfuls

Probably not what you wanted to know!

they reckon it depends on whether boy or girl..but its a myth but girls steal your beauty and boys don't...with me i got a lot more hair and it was shinier and fuller..and still is..appaarently it will start falling out soon...
when you are pregnant your hair is supposed to stop the falling out part of the cycle though i know some people get more falling out.. and no hair growing on legs for me but it grew on tummy

In the first stages of pregnancy my hair and skin were so oily I felt like an oil slick! I had this for about the first 12 weeks and then suddenly my skin and hair became awesome! My skin was so clear and not greasy at all and my hair was thick and just looked great, I pretty much never had a bad hair day which was great!

After pregnancy, my hair fell out when Lauren was 4 months old and it continues to fall out in handfulls. Its quite disgusting actually!

Peachy, this is exactly what I was talking about....

I have suddenly out of nowhere got really oily hair and my skin has broken out majorly.
My hair is unbearable.
I have never had oily hair but now I will wash it and instantly it is oily again, its really only the crown of my head though.... If that makes sense.

Now, I don't know if Im pregnant, AF is due today, but I have been reading up on the oily hair thing and its seems that it tends to be related to hormones and stress.... Well Im not all that stressed so was thinking it may possibly be hormones and related to pregnancy - Which would be a long shot but you never know!

Has anyone else ever had this before?
How do I get rid of it?

If its due to pregnancy, I can get over it, if its not it needs to be fixed FAST!

My hair looks like I haven't washed it in weeks, but I washed it this morning. Boo

I know that styists use talcum powder on models to absorb excess oil (hair is easier to style for shoots when it is dirty so they don't wash it - bleh!). You could try that?

Careful, the powder will make you look grey if you've got dark hair!

I had AMAZING nails when I was pregnant. They never ever grow, and always break and are soft but for those 42 weeks, I had great nails!!!

My hair didn't fall out during pregnancy, but almost immediately after Ashlee was born, it was coming out by the handful! So gross and it's still pretty bad now!

Oooohhh you should test today then if its a neg then you can sort your hair out.

Mine went crazy like it looked like it hadn't been washed in months when I got pregnant with Andrew. After 12 weeks it was great. Josh nothing really happened. But bad news 14 months on and its falling out in clumps.

Yeah mine fell out all the way through my pregnancy with Benjy and still is nearly 2 years on! There's still plenty of it but it comes out by the handful.
MY hairdresser said that pregnancy can permanently change your hair texture so it might stay like this forever, neat

My nails were sooo strong during pregnancy (probably because I was drinking excessive amounts of milk!).

My hair just reduced the amount falling out. It didn't really change much.

I didn't lose any hair during pregnancy but I'm shedding lots after. I've even lost hair on my arms since the birth.

My hairdresser, who's a good friend of mine, told me to brush my hair twice a day with a paddle brush (the flat ones) to help speed up the shedding. And it does help.

Anyone have any tips on getting rid of the excessive oil?

I can deal with the falling out part if we get to that! Ha!

In first trimester my skin broke out, my hair was normal but was not coming out at all and my nails started growing really fast and strong.

Now that I'm in second trimester my skin has cleared up (thank goodness) but my hair has gone all dry and brittle and has gone back to the normal levels of falling out. My nails are still growing really fast and strong.

What's going to happen in 3rd trimester and after the birth!

I didnt have to wash my hair as often...twice a week so I suppose it was in better condition...but it didnt shine, or go nice and straight etc. And then afterwards the fallout is amazing!!!! I was malting more than my long haired cats!

In those first few months I washed my hair everyday and double washed it with shampoo and don't use conditioner it adds to the problem!

Didn't get rid of the problem totally but helped with the oil slick look that I hated!

I have heard using baby powder at the roots is good. Not heaps if you are dark haired but it does help with the excess oil.

I run my hands through my hair and out comes about 50 hairs

Did you test???

Not yet Mummy Becks - Still no Af but all the signs that she is on her way....

Just bought some all natural Trilogy shampoo and double washed my hair.
Seems to be a bit better, touch wood. Its not fully dry yet so we will see.

I heard about that baby powder thing, my hair is almost black so I will use it as a last resort I think, might make me look grey!

Its just really odd that all of a sudden my normally healthy hair and skin both simutaneously start getting super oily!   ICK! Hope it clears up soon!

Get shampoo for oily hair, wash taking time to massage it well into the roots, rinse. Then do the same again and leave the shampoo to sit lathered up on the roots for about a minute. Rinse thoroughly. When you condition only condition the ends of your hair- make sure it gets nowhere near your roots/scalp.

I have oily roots and dry ends and do this every other day and its the only thing that works for me

I had heard ages ago that they had developed dark talc powder for using on darker hair but I have no idea where you would find it sorry!
