Does anyone have a rough idea of the legal limit for women, in terms of having a wine or two at a dinner out?

For you T I would say 1. I know I can have 3 glasses and still be under the limit . I have tested this out before after being at Liz's and then driving.

you also have to check out actually how big the glass is. the standard size wine glass is actually about 2.5 units of drink from memory. And it does depend on how much you eat with it, how long you leave it till you drive, and how big your body size is as well. I'd say 1 glass would be enough.

I know this is the wrong 'unit' but from memory four fluid ounces (of wine) constitutes one standard drink. I would say you should be fine with one, and if you're having it with a meal it will slow down the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream (but not reduce it).

The other thing is that different people metabolise alcohol differently, and the legal limit for an adult driver whether male or female is still 400mcg per litre of breath.

The guidelines say women can have 2 standard drinks and 1 glass an hour after that but a "standard drink" is about 2/3 the size of a normal glass served in a restaurant. I know there is no way I could have more than a glass and a half and drive - I don't know if I'd be over the limit (probably) but wouldn't feel safe to control a car properly. Your size, metabolism and food intake does impact on it. It also depends over what time period - maybe a glass at 4.30 while you're having snacks then a glass with dinner at 7 before driving home at 10 might be OK - it's just so different for everyone.

If I'm driving I always stick with 1 just to be on the safe side. I know any more than that I start to 'feel' the alcohol so figure it must be effecting me in other ways to so may not be safe to drive. Not that I ever drink anymore!

wow! you ladies feel the drink after 1 glass? i can get through a bottle without feeling it

but, i wouldn't drive after drinking that much of course. usually, if i do have to drive, i only have 2 glasses and that's generally over a long period of time...say 3-4hrs
