Quick question for those of you that have an IUD... Do you still get AF? Am meant to be getting one in the next few weeks, and trying to decide whether its worth buying a mooncup or not.

I used to and it was heavier then it was normally.

Yes when I had one I still got AF - it was lighter though. I used a keeper which is the same as a mooncup and it was pretty good but took some practice. If you're going to get one get some sanitary pads as well as it will probably leak the first few times while you get the hang of positioning it.

I have the Mirena and still got AF up until a couple of months ago.
It was way lighter than usual though and only really warranted using a liner.

I don't have the hormonal one (which is the one that may affect your period) but my period isn't any heavier than usual. The first few months it was but it has settled down nicely.

And yay for the mooncup! I just had to buy another one because I lost mine - I hope no one else finds it! hahaha

I have a normal IUD, have had it for 3 months now. Just had a period and it was much better, back to normal with no pain. The first 2 were a bit heavy and crampy.

@ you Deb. Not like that! hehe

There are approximately 25 days in between uses where it sort of floats around the house. I think that I either put it away somewhere very tidily... or the Devil Child got hold of it and put it in a secret place.

Ah well. It'll turn up somewhere - it isn't as if I carried it out of the house. I hope.

If it's a copper IUD then you will still get it. If it's a mirena IUD then it's "supposed" to slow down & stop eventually

I have mirena, I spotted for about 3 months and then haven't had a drop for about 6 months. I love mine so much, you won't be disappointed

Same here almost. I have a Mirena too and spotted about 2 months and haven't had anything since (which is about 2 months now)

I was told by my gyne that if you get a normal (non hormonal) IUD then you do bleed just like normal. And if you get a hormonal one then you will spot for a while and then your AF should disapear.

But everyone is different and who really knows

I LOVE my Mirena IUD..... had bleeding for the first 5 months, but now, I spot for 3 days every 28 and it barely even warrants a liner to be used any more........

Oh, and maybe TMI but DH says sometimes he feels the strings, but they never get in the way

I can't feel it Robyn but Ben said he could at the start. He can't anymore and I suspect they have coiled up (which is really common).

Apparently they get thinner over time too. When I sent DH looking for mine when I couldn't find it, he said they felt like thin strands of hair.

oh nice you are all painting lovely mental pictures!

I think my hubby would be horrified if I sent him looking for something like that haha

LOL, mine was too but then I told him I'd have to go to the Dr to find it. The idea of spending $50 for that was enough to send him in
