the midwife has put me off work till wednesday as my blood pressure is 170/90, most due to friday (being in a&e for gallstones), saturday (baby shower, started at 2pm got home around 9.30pm) and not sleeping yesterday (too busy finishing then nursery) and working this morning.

but she did say if it wasnt down next week, that i would be on early maternity leave and that i had to take each day, day by day and that it was essential that i rest as much as possible, because high bp at this stage can be dangerous.

So my boss has just rung and i am to ring in each morning as she wants to know how i am before i start work, i only have 3 wks left of work, but this bp has me really worried, and as this week is especially busy, i know if i work it, that my bp wont be down next week,

so i am going to talk to hubby tonight, and i think i might end up going on maternity leave from now, but if i do that i lose my entitlement to maternity leave from IRD because it beyond the 6 wk limit. maybe i will just work the mornings and not the afternoons.

on the brightside, baby is headdown, head firmly in my pelvis with her elbow sticking me everywhich way.

i am so tired and emotional at the moment i dont know whether i am coming or going.

Hi Kazzle,

I'm so sorry to hear this.... just keep resting okay.

My last bp reading I was very low 80/50, and was told to take it easy too, which I did.

Could your work possibly give you three weeks sick leave/annual leave/unpaid leave until your maternity leave starts so you wouldn't lose your entitlement?
There must be some way to work around this...

For now. Keep resting and keep us posted okay sweety.

the worse thing is, the more you worry about your bp, the less likely it is to go down!!! I would suggest taknig the week off, afterall, you can either take this week off and relax, or you'll need to take three weeks off. Go to a videostore, get out some videos, grab the phone, and big piles of snacks. Sit, eat and watch tv. Relax as much as poss.

can you take a week as emergency leave or sick leave?

Sorry to hear things arent going so well at the mo. Take a few days to just totally chill out. I ended up finishing work a few weeks early at 33 weeks, cos i was sick of it!! How come you arent entitled to paid parental leave if you finish now?

Take care of yourself. If you can't get parental leave do you qualify for the parental tax credit. I'm not sure when you are due but if you have bubs after 31st march you can earn up to 68,000 and still get the full $1200. Maybe another option. Easier said than done, try to go with the flow and relax.

Kazzle - sorry to hear of your stressful time. Let's hope that by Wednesday and next week, things will be ok. In the meantime, do what everyone suggests - rest up heaps, and see where to from there.

Working part time would be a good option, if you can arrange it. And if you need to work more than a half day, are you able to do something from home? That way you can have a rest when you need it, but still get work done as well. Always worth asking about.

And having a wee cry in the meantime is probably a good thing - gets it all out!

thanx guys, feeling a little better this morning, but not great, to answer a couple of questions, i am already working part time, but i am probably going to say to them that i will work the mornings this week, and not the afternoon, especially since this is my last week of morning work.

as for finishing early, if you finish more than six weeks from your due date you are not entitled to maternity leave (IRD), but i will just take unpaid leave if i have to so i still get it.

so for today i am just going to relax and chill out, i was for the first time in weeks actually able to sleep in this morning, until the phones (landline and cellphone) started ringing abour 8.30am with ppl just checking that i was okay, and resting. i know they mean well but please 8.30am in the morning its a good bet that someone will be sleeping....if they are at home because they midwife has said sleep and rest.

i have no idea, but i have spoken to work and if i end up leaving next week, its only a week and a half before im due to start maternity leave and they will just give me unpaid leave so it wont effect me so thats one good thing.

have also confirmed my shifts for this week, and im working wednesday and thursday morning, and i have all day friday off, and dont go back to work till tuesday afternoon, as i have mondays off as well.

so i promise to take it easy and rest up.

Sorry to hear about your BP. Hopefully it comes down. Remember stress makes it worse so just relax.

Re the ird maternity leave. You should be on sick leave for the 3 weeks until you are due to take maternity leave (they should also pay you sick leave owing, so dont let your boss try to tell you that it will be unpaid). Then your maternity leave will start when its ment to.

Im a ex union rep, and the things that bosses try to get away with because their employees dont know . Anyway all the best.

well i went to work yesterday and must have over done it, as im off work today, and dont go back to work till tuesday.

i am beginning to think that maybe i should just take unpaid leave until my maternity leave kicks in and just kick back relax, potter around and just look after myself and baby.

i am still feeling really tired and outta sorts, spending the day with mum tomorrow so hopfully that will help as mum and i are really close and its nice to relax on her deck in the swing chair

suggestion: tell everyone that while you aer sleeping, you will haev the phone off the hook. that way, if they ring you won't get disturbed, but they also won't bang the door down cause you've been "engaged" for two hours and they worry you've died or somthing.
