hi ladies
my MW told me yesterday that i have strep b and will need an IV line put in during labour to prevent bubs from getting it during labour.. i know this is quite common, and im just wondering for those who have experienced this, did you still get to be mobile during labour? i would really like to use the bath and shower etc for pain relief.. ------------- Mummy to two beauties... Are they going to put you constantly on a drip or just give you a couple of -whatevers lol- while you are in labour? Often they get the IV line ready very early but you aren't hooked up to anything so there's no prob and it's perfectly fine to shower etc. They can also give you antibiotics in pill form (they are huge though) the night before if your labour is going slow - that's what I had but I'm pretty sure I had the IV line in as well when I was properly in labour. But I was very mobile. -------------  |

i wasnt..but probably cause i had other issues..if it was just that i would have been able to move.. in answer to your question 30-40% of people.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

You aren't connected to anything so yes you can move around. i had it with both my boys and with Josh I was very mobile. What will happen is that once labour is established and you are about 7cm you will have a dose of penicillen. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

ahhh thank you ladies. so they just insert the IV line and pump/flush through the antibiotics? i assumed id have one of those bags on a pole or something  ------------- Mummy to two beauties... Formerly Kaiz. |

Yea you're not tied to a drip (AKA bag on a pole  ), it's more so they can easily flush stuff thru you without having to keep making holes!------------- |

You'll only need the bag and pole if you need fluids. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

she connected me to a bag and pole and said here goes your strep B antibiotics and hooked something up.. i remember because it was before all the other drugs:)but then i got a lot of fluid right after as well ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

i wasnt hooked up to anthing i just had an iv line put in then when it was time for antibiotics she just puts them in and then had to repeat 12 hours later ------------- mother to Brianna, Amelia & Mathew. http://lilypie.com">

It does depend on what antibiotics they give you, some can be given as a push and others need to be added to fluid in a bag. But as sooon as that bag is gone through it should be slushed and capped so you can move round ------------- http://www.babysfirstsite.com">
