Hi there
Anyone else experiencing a really sore back in their first trimester?
I see a chiropractor every 2 weeks (have been seeing her intermittently since before my first pg) - but was wondering if this is normal and if anyone else is suffering a sore back early on.
It's always on one side - and although I've suffered a sore back for many years - the frequency and pain of this is nothing I've experienced for many years.

You will probably find it improves during second trimester, but it may coome back near the end when you are huge. You are most lax in your joints first and thrid trimester, and by the end everything is getting really stretched as well! So yep, its very normal to have sore back really early. Hope it improves soon.

Big hugs - I know how it feels! I have a history of chronic back pain and the pregnancy flared it. First trimester was yuck and now the last trimester is worse. All the ligaments are loosening up with all the hormones floating around, so some pain is normal. My theory (based only on me and my sister's experiences) is that if you have a history of pain, then pregnancy seems to flare it up. When I talked to the pain specialists about it, they said for some people with long term pain, pregnancy can be a godsend cos everything relaxes and the pain goes away; for others, pregnancy flares it and there's no telling who will be the lucky ones! After first trimester, you can go onto things like amitriptylline which are central pain "dullers", if you find it's really bad and you need some medications. It worked great for me pre-pregnancy and in the second trimester, but now the benefits have worn off

I had a really sore back during first T and I thought it was crazy as I didn't even have a bump. Now that I am second T my back pain is only when I lay down.
So yeah I guess its normal.

You poor thing - I remember too well how it feels! I had really bad pain in my sacroiliac (sp?) joints, in my lower back.. from first trimester too. I went to a physio and that helped a bit. I had a support belt I wore under my clothes. It didn't get any better during the different trimesters, and it was a pain in the butt (literally!). But the good news is, it went as soon as my boy was born, and now I only have it ever so slightly sometimes.

Yep I had the same sort of thid as arohanui, mine was caused by rolling over in bed and I slipped a disc.
I had physio and it is back in place now, but it was SOOO painful, it had me in tears.
I just have normal back ache now, but my lower back does ache really bad sometimes.

I had a sore back this time for the first trimester but it has gone now that my uterus has moved up out of my pelvis. Im guessing that it may come back towards my third trimester. Unfortunately it is normal for me. Physio helped too.
Talk to your midwife if it becomes really intense. I can totally sympathise with you.

I also got a really sore lower back at the start of my 2nd trimester. I saw a PT and chiropractor and it improved by the start of my 3rd trimester. It was really quite painful.
