How early can you test for pregnancy? before or after your period is due?

As BellaBabysMum said, it depends in when you implanted, but also the sensitivity of the HPT you are using.
I just did a HPT today, and it came up as a BFP, as today is 12DPO... It didn't come up positive yesterday.
Some tests claim that you can test 7 to 10 days after ovulation/conception, but you are best to wait 10DPO before testing! Also when you next go to the docs, ask them to give you some pregnancy tests, as they are extremely sensitive. Also saves you money as well.
The First Response tests from the supermarket are the same sensitivity as the ones that the doctors use. They are pretty cheap as well, New World currently have 3 dip stick pack for $14... Or if you go to a Unichem pharmacy, the MDS QuickCard 3 pack is $19.
It takes 2 days for the hCG in your blood to make it to your urine, if that helps :-)

Hi sunshine
If you test now my opinion is that you'll likely get a false negative (providing that you are in fact pg) and disregard the test anyhow. I know two weeks seems like an age at times but considering that some people don't get a positive until after their AF is due, I'd hang out for the due date.

I *knew* with this one from about 5dpo, but I managed to stay in denial till AF was late and I couldn't avoid the obvious. So it is possible to just *know*

Maya - I also *knew* that I was pregnant a couple of days ago, but the HPT I did this morning (and another one this afternoon) confirmed that I was :-)

i have only ever used the first response tests and found them good.
with jack, i tested the day before AF due and got a BFN, then forgot about it til 2wks later and still no AF
with charli, we started TTC 10 jan and got my BFP 24th jan although it was a very faint line
if you can, it's best to wait. but if you can't (and we all know how hard that is!) get the 3pkt tests at supermarket as they are cheap and if the first one is BFN you have a couple more up your sleeve to use later.
