I have got one, and in hindsight I probably wouldn't have bothered. They are great, but I think unless you are going camping or travelling alot, a standard portacot is probably better. ------------- Lou http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

We have just used one for the past three night as we are in Sydney. As Madison is only 8 months and uses a grobag it recommends not using the sleeping bag. I found that Madison got really sweaty in the cot without a sheet on the base (just lying on the plastic). I think it would probably be okay for an older child where you could leave the flap open for ventilation and use the sleeping bag as a base. -------------

Thanks guys, thats interesting. We largely were looking at it as we going camping every year and it is so compact. Our first big camping trip will be when Rohann is 11 months, but ofcourse we would probably use it before then as a regular portacot. Lou why do you think a regular portacot would have been better? I just think that if you are using it often (if you were away every weekend) then your baby would get used to it and it would be super convenient as it's super light and all that. But when you are just using it now and then, I think it's a strange environment for the baby. The portacot is more what they are used to. I also found that it was a bit sauna like when the weather was hot. I have probably used it about 5 times (Jaymie is 8 1/2 months old). Probably when she's a bit older and she can understand the 'novelty' of being in a tent-like thing she will love it... ------------- Lou http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

We bought one just before going camping at Easter (in central Otago), and have used it a few times since as well, when going to friend's places in the evening. We think its great!
Its super lightweight and small, and so actually portable, just rock up with baby bag and kinderkot over each shoulder. Our son is 11 months, and he sleeps in it fine. When camping it was a bit blimmin cold so he ended up sleeping with us a bit too. He sleeps soundly in it at friend's place, hotel, etc. We use a sheepskin on top of the bottom half of the sleeping bag, and he sleeps in his Gogo bag same as at home. We haven't yet zipped it up and he hasn't tried to go anywhere yet ;-) We also have a regular portacot that we were given, we had used that a bit but its quite big to lug around and set up and put down. Kinderkot is 10 secs to pop up and about 2 mins to fold down and pack away. For evenings out and for camping the Kinderkot suits us very well :-) |
