If your child/ren have grommets how does bath time go, and how can I safely wash his hair. We will not and does not like things in his ears, won't keep a showercap or swimcap on his head. I am mega paranoid that water is going to go in his ears, after waiting and fighting this long to get them done, I keep feeling something is going to go wrong.

So any tips from you lovely experienced mums/dads would be great, pretty please.

You only have to worry for the first two or so weeks afterwards tho, from memory we just didn't wash our girls hair for the first couple of weeks (not that they have much ). But now we just do it as normal, and they pour water over each others heads lol.

Nope, that used to be the recommendation but our ENT said now it's fine after they've had a couple of weeks to heal. But he did say he doesn't recommend deep sea diving coz of the pressure lol!
Gremlins are going for their 6 mthly grommet check tomorrow. I'm hoping they're still in coz the ET said Mercedes in particular will prob need to have hers redone at some stage as she was so young (9 mths) when she first got them.

Yep everything Emma said. We have no problems now with getting the head under the water with the grommets, its now that he doesn't want to put his head under.

I remember reading our grommets info sheet and they say clean water is ok dirty water is not. And I think dirty water is water that has wash stuff in it.

When my brother had them I remember mum saying he wasnt allowed to get water in his ears but Im no not sure for how long. I think he had baths instead of showers and mum just carefully washed his hair. i think its just that you cant put your head under water, but Im pretty sure the odd drip of water wont hurt after the initial 2 weeks.

In the "old days" (teehee) when DSD had hers (about 10-odd years ago) they used to say not to get water in their ears at all, it was a total mare trying to keep a five year old out of the water in summer, and bathtimes were a battle. Am soooo glad they've moved on from that idea!

Thanks Ladies, Had to take Xanda to doctor today for a bad cough, and while there she looked in ears and left one is red and inflamed, so them asked her about the water thing. She advised that we keep water out of them until we go back for the 6 week check up. This is mainly because there was quite a bit of trouble with his left ear during and after surgery, so we want to keep it as dry as poss to reduce further infection.
