Well wehave just had MAJOR drama here and I feel terrible. Tom was playing with the TV cabinet (again!!!) when suddenly he started screaming. He had jammed his hand in the door.. 
I rushed over thinking it was his right hand in side of the door and then saw that wasnt possible so thought he must have hit his hand. So I quickly picked himup for a cuddle...not noticing it was the left hand in the top of the door that had shut. I ripped his little fingers out by accident and have taken the skin off the back of one and the nail is all white It was bleeding and so whats the first thing I do? Stick it in my mouth!!! Why????? Coz thats what you do with your own fingers isnt it!! He wouldnt let me near him with cold water or a cold flannel. It took ages to get the crying to stop and in the end he got pamol, his dummy and then a bottle. He fell asleep on the bottle and after a while on me I put him into his cot. Poor wee man. The tips of his middle and ring finger are all red and swollen. I can imagine that pulsing ache there. you wouldnt go to the doc for that would you? I am pretty sure they arent broken. It was just the tips. The worst part is the skin peeled off the pad at the back. I managed to roll it back down. If it was my finger I would cut it off but cant see that happening with Tom. In fact I dont know how I will even get a plaster on it. They are so little.

ouch, poor wee thing...
if your docs dont cost you anything maybe you should take him anyway and they may be able to dress it for you ...

Oh, poor wee moppit and poor you too.
It happens to all of us though *looks around hopefully for agreement* I've injured Michaela twice this week, first time when we were playing rough she dropped onto my belly, which is really soft  but she landed funny an I think she jarred her neck or something becuase she started howling then the next night I didn't realise she was down beside me and I closed a cupboard on her and the corner scratched her side (it was post bath and she'd dropped her towel so there was nothing between her skins and the corner of the door).
From what you described I wouldn't rush straight to the doctors but I'd keep an eye on it to make sure the swelling goes down and the redness doesn't spread. If you can get a plaster on it he's less likely to get an infection but if he does you'll need antibiotics. PM me if you want to see a picture of what the skin looks like when there's a spreading infection. -------------

good thinking Deb, our doc doesnt cost and that way I could get another RX for paracetamol as we have run out.....and we havent hit teething yet.
Does anyone else find they burst into tears when their little one does that high pitched scream......with the BIG pauses between as he builds it back up? |

NZPiper, my wee one does the high pitched shriek everyday even though she isn't hurt!! Man, it goes through me, it's a ear piercing one!

oh, poor tom, and poor nzpiper! I feel for you. Big hug. We've all been there and done that to one degree or another. Cath rolled off the bed yesterday when i turned my back to pick up a toy to amuse her -  so I'm with you in the Bad Mummy Club.
Take him to the doc to get the wound dressed and for piece of mind too. |

Deb is so right in saying that accidents DO happen.
We have certainly had our fair share here, and times where I haven't been quick enough to catch him ...and I stew about it afterwards thinking Maybe I could have prevented that'. I'd like to think they grow out of it 
Lol I'll share a lil something with you, might make you smile! I took this video of bub walking on Tuesday, I wanted to update my video collection to show how much he's improved with his steps/walking ...first take he manages to walk straight into a wall poor thing!!!  Since taking this video he's gotten even BETTER on his feet, he walked around all of Nana's house yesterday without stopping.
I'm sure Tom will be fine,and you're certainly not a bad mother ...the fact that you're worried shows that you care. Now if you were a 'bad' mother you wouldn't be worried at all. If he starts acting a bit out of character or something just doesn't seem right, OR even for peace of mind, don't hesitate taking him to your family Dr. After all most docs don't charge for bubs and that way your mind will be put to rest. The won't think you're neurotic for taking him to the doc for a dressing. Their fingers are so tiny its next to impossible to do it by yourself with a normal bandaid and squirming bub!
Don't feel bad, I've done things like that so many times now! He won't remember it and I bet he's already forgiven you. ETA: Our TV cabinet is taped shut because Benjy is forever opening and closing it! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

yeah we went to doc. Tom is ok but theflap of skin was annoying him. he now has a smiley face plaster!. I also wanted his ears checked and more free pamol
