It is very hard for me to go down this track....
We have 2 lovely moggies, but my son now has asthma and we are trying to help prevent it developing into anything serious.

I need to look into re homing them. Any advise please....I don't want to just get rid of them and want to place them in a place that will find them a loving home. I have tried friends and family and everyone is already full.

Any suggetions please

Awww I wish we weren't full up also (4 really is our limit!)

What about Trade Me? People have to contact you so you can approve the home they go to and could also specify they go together. Otherwise there is only really the SPCA...

I have a brother and a sister. They are about 6 years old now. They are desexed and their jabs are up to date.
If I found a home for them I will be able to give about 6months worth of flea and worm treatment that we still have.
My girl loves cuddles but my boy loves the outdoors and is happy to go without. They are both a bit overweight but have been since they were babies and the vet is happy with them (we tried diets but they never worked)

I had a cry about it last night, My boy was playing with them and just ended up wheezing so much. I know they are not the direct cause but they are a factor.

Oh Shorty, if we weren't full up already I'd take them in an instant I cats

Maybe try advertising them as a pair on Trade Me? or take them to the SPCA (they are excellent and if you state that you want them to go together, they WILL go together)
Local newspaper?

Hi Shorty

I second trying TM.

We had to rehome my MIL's cat recently. She's moved in with us since her DH died and we aren't allowed another cat.

I put the cat's profile on TM and got several queries. I was contacted by a lovely lady who described where maddy would live if we chose her - it was perfect. She came and picked her up last weekend which was very sad for MIL. Then a few days later she sent me an email to let me know how maddy is settling in and she will email me again in a couple of weeks too.

I was concerned that giving away a cat on TM would be impersonal but it's actually been really good.

Aw thanks ladies.
It just brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.

It is hard and I think we took them on to look after them for life and somehow I am failing them....

I rang the SPCA, she was so nice. It is $25 for the first cat and $10 for the next cat. They will home them together and guarantee they wont be put down (I have been told they only hold them for 7days).
I will get through this weekend and talk to a couple of friends to see if they will have them.

I don't know if I will be able to go through with it

My cousin had to rehome his cat for the same reason - his son had bad asthma. If it is any comfort to you at all, they took Moufasa (sp? the cat anyway!) to the SPCA and he had a new home before my cousin had even left the building.

I wish I could help you myself

Oh bum, we live on the main road, so probably wouldn't be an ideal home situation for them.

SPCA sounds like a good plan, as does TM. Good luck.

So my babies are now listed on TM. Done some flyers and delivered to the vets....who have all said they hold no hope.
I will give it 1 more week and then take them to SPCA....not a trip I want to make.

It is a sad day.

I hope that you find a good home for them.

We are so happy with the new home we found for MILs cat, the women has sent me a couple of emails to assure me that she's all settled in. I hope you have a positive experience too.

I am Shorty26 on TM. I will upload a photo on there, just waiting for the vet to send me a recent one.

I have put the word out to try with friends and family and their friends and family....nothing

Thanks MrsMojo, that is the thing with the SPCA, they will not tell me when they find a home.
I really want the best for them and would rather know they have gone to someone who will love them like we have.

They have been at the vet for a week, my wee man keeps going to the door calling them "Rocky" (we named him Rock) or "poo poo' (we named her Missy...and sometimes called her Missy poo poo)

They are both Moggy's.
Missy is black/brown, she has cute circles on her tummy
Rock is grey/white, he looks like a possum with white paws

Hi Shorty

Are you in Auckland? We are thinking of getting a couple of cats, but were waiting until our son was a few more weeks old. Are they very playful? My husband really wants at least one cat that will play with him - cause that is what our last cat was like - unfortunately we had to have her put down earlier this year at approx 17 years of age due to ill health (old age really). I could talk to my husband and see if he would consider getting the cats sooner? (no promises - you know what men are like!)

Let me know.

Amanda

Hi,
Yes we are in Auckland. They are currently at the cattery in Glen Eden. You are more than welcome to go and have a look and a play with them.

Missy is very much a girl, she loves cuddles.
Rock is very much a boy, he loves outdoors.
They are both very indpendent but have always loved playtime.
They like to sleep indoors and have always loved the warmth!

We have never had any problems with them with our son, they sniffed the room and would check it out but never slept in there.

They come with a cage each, and we will supply a couple of months worth of revolution.

Try not to feel bad though, you have a valid reason why you have to give them up. Big hugs to you babe!

Fingers crossed that Mandz can take your kittys.

I can totally get how you are feeling hun. I wish I could take them for you but DH would kill me if I came home with more animals... apparently 2 cats and 1 dog is quite enough ( i beg to differ, the puppy needs a friend )

I am sure you will find a great home!!!

Spoke to the hubby, he is okay with us going and checking them out! Can you let me know how we would do this? Keen to do today or tomorrow if possible....

Thanks

My precious babies have a new home.

I am overwhelmed with the love and support from you lovely ladies!

I can not even begin to thank Amanda for taking them and giving them the home we are no longer able to.

It is a sad time to know we no longer have our cats but happy that they have a loving home to go to.
