acrylic wool is man made so it won't breathe as well as real wool. However you don't have to wool wash acrylic.

Not that I'm making any claim as a knitter but my MIL is one.

Acrylic 'yarn' is completely artificial, unless it says otherwise on the label, and definitely doesn't breathe as well as pure wool - but Bobbie is right, you don't have to wash it especially or treat it in the same way as real wool.

I am a bit of a wool snob when it comes to knitting, if I am making clothing 99% of the time I will go for 100% pure wool, cotton, or cotton / wool blend. If it is a gift or something someone has requested and they are not fussy, sometimes I will go for a wool / acrylic blend.

Acrylic = synthetic = doesn't breathe as well.

I'd get wool blankets for winter.

In saying that, when Han was young I used an awful lot of polarfleece blankets!
