What canned and frozen veges do you use, and how do you use them?

I use canned tomatoes with mince and in pasta bakes.

Canned whole kernel corn in bacon and egg pies and quiches.

Frozen mix veg in most things, and frozen peas as well, also as a side veg.

Frozen corn cobs a side veg.

Those potato roaster thingies as a side veg.

But I'm keen to explore new territory!

We don't use many canned veges at all. They just don't taste as good I find..

We use LOTS of frozen veges though.

We go through tons of the "wok veges" and use a bag of them in risotto and stir fry.

When we have pasta bake we use some frozen spinach, frozen peas/carrots/corn.

We use the winter veges bag with some kecap manis and lime juice and just cook them in that as a side thing with mash spud etc. Really yummy and basic.

Ummm we get baby carrots and add them to everything and anything we can lol.

Don't use any tinned but loads of frozen.

Green beans, peas, mixed veg, stir fry mix, or whatever happens to be on offer

Oh broad beans are yummy try those, great in casseroles or with roasts.

Mostly like you either add to foods or use as a side dish.

Tinned tomatoes in almost anything that can have it in.

Tinned creamed corn in a chicken and corn casserole I make.

I usually only have frozen peas, corn and stir fry vege so just use them.

Frozen peas and beans on the side as the green portion of meals. I would use corn but neither DH nor Elle will eat corn.

Tinned tomatoss (no other tinned vegetables).

Aren't those potato roaster things really expensive?

I get my fresh fruit and vegetables from the fruit shop at Three Kings...the prices are really good.

Is that the one at the plaza? I used to get ours at Green Rebel in New Lynn but now that Maya's not at preschool I'm hardly ever down that way so lately I've been getting them at Countdown which is way more expensive.

Yeap. The one at the plaza. I've been making my own fruit and vegetable juice lately so come out laden with several bags of stuff and never spend over $20.

Last week $14 bought:
2Kg carrots
2.5Kg apples
4 oranges
6 pears
8 capsicums
1 garlic
1 celery
1 lettuce
Bag of mushrooms
1 courgette

Anything on top of what you have Emma, I use fresh. Also you can freeze things like cauliflower, carrots, at home. Destitute Gourmet has a page on it on her website.

We use frozen spinach heaps, cauli and brocolli, plus those wok bags, and any chunky mixed vege we through in everything and Isla has them with most meals too.

Canned- tomatoes, beetroot- in salads/on burgers/as a side, creamed corn- in toasties or fritters, corn kernals- in pasta dishes.

TINNED

- Baby Corn
- Bamboo Shoots

FROZEN

- Brocolli
- Cauliflower
- Baby Carrots
- Baby Peas
- Spinach
- Mashed Potato (good if you are in a rush)
- Sweet corn

FRESH (will always buy fresh for the following)

- Beans (mainly because we like 'em crunchy)
- Asparagus (much better than tinned)
- All the usual suspects (leafy greens, potatoes, cabbage etc etc)
