went to the park with the boys today. quite a few people there. ONe kid started tagging on the poles until I told him off

"i was just testing the vivid" - whatever.

Anyway, this woman - around 20 turned up with a little boy and girl. Lewis was pushing Jake on the swing and the little boy ran up to the next swing ans yelled "i wanna swing". the woman did nothing, he kept yelling, so Lewis helped him up on the swing and gave him a push. ONce he was on the swing, the woman left...like left the park. After ten minutes, it was just me, lew, Jake and Taine and these two kids. I asked thelittle girl how old she was - 7!!! and the boy was 4. I asked where the parents were "um...maybe at home?" So these two kids were left at the park with absolutely no supervision.

Is that weird, or am I over reacting?

I ended up walking them to the park gate and watched hem go home - not far away, but still. just hope someone was home

She probably left because she figured you'd watch the kids for her! What a cheek.

I would have called the cops.

I remember at 7 being able to wander up the street to the park. But that was 20 years ago and the "park" was an unused property between the houses of friends.

But a 4 year old?

I don't think you're being unreasonable!!
The kids are obviously left to their own devices alot, if the little girls reaction is anything to go by

Did you go to the park just round the corner??

That happens often - on day I do want to take my phone with me and call the cops.

That happened to us once up in Whangarei, this kid was there when we arrived and we assumed he was with these other people that were there but then they left and he was still there, and he would have only been 3 or 4

The kids went down chelwood, towards botanical.

I kept thinking, what if we had left? and the little boy...or girl hurth themselves? weird parents.

That's terrible. What if you guys had to leave, you could have just left the kids at the park on their own. Or if they had taken off as soon as their parents left? Yep I'd call the cops - not now, but in the moment. It's far too dangerous to leave kids that age unattended, much less not even at home.

I think that's shocking. As you said what if one of them had hurt themselves (or worse). We used to play at our local park by ourselves too but there were 5 of us ranging in age from 7 - 13 (safety in numbers) plus it was the 80s and people had only just started locking doors at night.

Definitely take your phone next time and call the police. I think the minimum age in NZ for a child to be left looking after another is 14 (maybe 15) therefore that woman was breaking the law plain and simple.
