At Joshua's daycare there is a lovely little boy who he has become quite friendly with.
Yesterday, I was dropping him off, and the other little boy was getting dropped off at the same time. Joshie saw him and wanted to run over and see him at his car. So I took him over, and as the mum was getting out I saw that both her, and another woman in the front seat were smoking cigarettes 
This is wrong on so many levels - the obvious: that they were smoking in a car with a child in there. And also, you are not allowed to smoke on daycare land. Wondering if I should mention it to daycare... Although I think they'd probably know, as I bet the poor wee thing turns up reeking of smoke

I hate that  , and the poor kid probably doesnt feel like he can say anything either.
I have the occasional smoke, but never in the car with Caitlyn , never around Caitlyn at all for that matter... My friend asked me once when we were driving somewhere with Caitlyn and her daughter , if i minded if she smoked in the car with the windows down, i just said "yeah i do mind actually" and she looked a bit surprised, but she didnt at least |

Poor kid. You could probably say something to the daycare and to prevent her from smoking on DC grounds but he's her child and if she wants to kill him slowly and painfully by subjecting him to passive smoke at home or in her car then there's nothing anyone else can do.
The odd thing is despite all the evidence to the contrary some people think it's ok to smoke around children. My MIL has told me numerous times that smoking around her kids never caused them any harm but when I read DH's plunket book I see he'd had asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis all before he was 1 (not to mention the fact that all but 2 of her 8 kids are smokers now) - there's no getting through to some people. DH worked for awhile with a pregnant lady that smoked and when I was 38 weeks pregnant (and huge) I was collecting for child cancer in the middle of wellington and a guy stood next to me and lit up joking that it probably didn't look to good smoking next to a child cancer sign - idiot (I told him where to get off). I'm only recently an ex-smoker myself but I'd never ever smoke around children or in playgrounds. -------------

I managed to stop smoking for the last 3 months (god knows how, I'm always so stressed out) and will probably start again when I've had this baby. BUT - smoking in the car when you've got little ones in there too, I think that's bad as well. We have a smokefree car and a smokers car (smokefree car is the one baby will go in) I really dont think it's hard to just not have a ciggie while the kids are in the car?
I'm not gonna get too much into this, as it's a bloody touchy subject - My mum smoked right thru with both myself and my sister - we were both extremely sporty healthy kids with no respiratory problems - I guess it's just luck of the draw really. ------------- Alex, Thomas and Lily http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">

It is very wrong, I am a smoker but only outside and not around my children. I hate seeing people smoking in cars with children in there, they didn't ask for them to have it around them. I would mention something to the daycare so that it could be mentioned in the next newsletter about how the daycare premises including the carpark are smokefree. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I can't stand it when people smoke around kids... In my opinion there should be smoking bans on some public places (bus stops, Main street footpaths mainly) as you really can't avoid it, but it's not that hard to find a side street, walk 20 steps away from the bus stop, etc and stand to have your ciggy (easier than for a pregnant mum or someone with kids to have to move away and then rush over when the bus comes) -------------

Ooo I so agree, I hate it how everyone hangs around the entrace to malls smoking as well you just can't get away from it. I put no smoking signs all around my backyard so people have to go out to their car if they want to smoke. |
