Are any of you guys riders? Are you still riding? How far through are you? I have been riding for years and am looking at a geriatric plodder, but I'm just a little unsure about how much longer its safe to stay in the saddle.

I'm a rider though I haven't had a horse to ride for a couple of years. I think that it's fine up until you get uncomfy though I wouldn't go doing huge jumps or anything. But that also depends on the horse. If your horse is quiet and won't throw you it's fine but I wouldn't ride a horse where you might end up being booted off

I didn't ride whilst pregnant but then I don't have my own horse and normally just go out trekking with one of the touristy type companies. I was too scared to go but then I would only rate my riding skills as intermediate anyway, shame cos I missed going out with my cousin when she was over but I was so paranoid about coming off that I think I would have caused myself to IYGWIM.

If you feel comfy doing it then I should think it would be fine.

I haven't ridden in years after injuring myself in a fall. Was going to go riding for my birthday in 2005 but found out I was preg and decided not to - I was too paranoid to.

I just found this site http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/Exercising-While-Pregnant.id-408,subcat-MIND.html - Exercise while pregnant which says "Downhill skiing, water skiing, horseback riding: All of these activities put you at risk of falling with significant impact, which could injure you or your baby. While they may be fine early in pregnancy, talk to your doctor before doing any of these sports in your second or third trimester. Cross-country skiing is less risky, especially if you're experienced."

Hi

I am a rider but still TCC. A few months back there was a very informitve article in the Horse and Pony>many doctors say there is no risk but not all doctors agree on this, many top riders were still riding at top level at 5 months. My mum said there would be no way I would be riding. I have already decided that I will keep riding and competing as long as I can but only with my school master - I trust this guy with my life- my young one will be having a break

Cheers guys :)

I don't have my own horse atm, but am riding a four year old very trusty armchair clydestale, only flat work. I know a girl who did a 3day at 5 months, but am too chicken togo out of the paddock.

I'm thinking I might go ahead with the horse I am looking at, She is so quiet and I have plenty of people willing to her when I can't for a period of timel.

I won't be jumping or riding unknown horses for a good few years now :)

Hi we are ttc'in at the moment and I am just at the point of looking for a suitable horse for me to take riding up again. Im not too worried about riding while pregnant, in the beginning anyway and then later on will get hubby & son to ride horse occasionally too. But thought I could lunge him/her later in pregnancy.

Nice to see other riders on here. But I don't think I'd be brave enough to do any jumping etc when pregnant

Hope I find a nice horse soon

hi there i am a rider i rode through out both my 1st and 2nd pregnancies right up til i was 5days over due only stopped coz i found i kept getting stuck in the saddle.
the horse i rode isnt my own but i only rode him as i trust him alot, with my 1st pregnancy i made sure to always wear the back/chest protector as its ur back u need to worry about with everything softer than usual, i fell off at 8wks and baby is now nearly 3yrs old mw assured me falling off so early in pregnancy was unlikely to cause any harm as baby is still well surrounded my fluid etc and i fell off while trying to get off at 26wks with ds#2(how i found out i couldnt get off with out a helper) he is now nearly 2yrs old, i was still jumping him at 5mths but only over tiny jumps. i havent ridden this pregnancy coz well i dont have the time and i havent been riding as much b4 i became preg with this baby, if it is something u are use to and your body is use to it there isnt much reason not to, be careful in the later months as gravity shifts forward i found that a bit anoying.

I don't ride often but my midwife said I should ride at all until the 12week mark but that is maybe because I only ride once a weekish and have had a history of m/c's.
