So much for no spending in May!
I've had toothache on and off for a couple of days so this morning I went to the dentist and forked out for a filling. That's expensive on its own but then when I mentioned to him that I suspect I clench my teeth in my sleep he had a closer look at my jaw and told me that it is 'severely misaligned' and that I'll need to see a TPA specialist.
Apparently its a condition that is usually picked up on in early adolescence and is relatively easy to treat then. For some reason mine went unnoticed and I'll probably have to have surgery to pull my bottom jaw forward and wear plates top and bottom at night to stop the clenching.
I'm SO in two minds. Its awesome to finally have an answer regarding the headaches, they've been driving me nuts for ages but when it comes to the specialist all I can see is more dollar signs and EEEEK! Surgery on my jaw???

could he not just suggest a mouthguard that would deter you from doing it ?

Wouldn't you get that done through the hospital?? And then it would be free...??

He said that since it is clenching my teeth, not grinding them, that a mouthguard wouldn't work as I'd just be clenching on that instead and he suspects that is what is causing these bad headaches I've been having.
*surgery on your jaws gonna be a hassle* I know! I get bad heebie jeebies thinking about it and really worried about what it would be like recovering afterwards... Really hoping I won't need that though!
I guess the specialist will tell me if I can get it done through the hospital. I really don't know how much specialist orthodontic surgeries they do there though? I'll definitely ask!
I should be grateful though, people go through much worse every day and I am thankful that it might mean the end of these headaches!
