For the past few days i have been experiencing period-pain type spasms / cramps in my abdamon and pelvic area. They last about half a minute of so.
I have been reading web articles on braxton hicks and they all say that BH is not painful. While these pains i am having are not exactly excruciating, they do sometimes make me wince a bit. Are these BH's or just part of the preggy experience or something i should be concerned about? ------------- |

the official articles all says BH isn't painful, but if you do a google search on it you'll find heaps of mama-to-bes that disagree!!

Mention them to your midwife next you see her but I would be concerned unless they increased in frequency and intensity and became regular.
I also have BH which can sometimes make me stop in my tracks and I have been told only to worry if they keep happening for longer than an hour. Most of the time I just get a few of them then they go away. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Definitely check with your MW next time you see her. I have been having the type of pain/cramping you've described, but am also having very different BH, which are not painful at all. My MW suggested that the pain might be due to a UTI - so it's worth getting checked out, or alternatively (which I think it is in my case) irritable uterus.
I would let her know anyway... -------------

Yip what the others have said and if they become quite regular and get worse or if you have any bleeding or leakage call your midwife ASAP
Hopefully its just boring old BHs tho |

susie, i was going to post today about a similar thing. wondering if 19wks is too early? i know i got painful ones with Vincent and they were reasonably early, just can't remember how early. Are they kind of like food poisoning/ yucky tummy pains? coz that's what i keep getting.... Anyway, those that say bh aren't painful, unless it was only due to my irratable uterus, then i beg to disagree! i had bloomin painful ones with Vincent. -------------

thanks for the replies - seems to have eased off now, but more like crampy spasms than food poisoning.
Am seeing midwife next Tuesday so i will mention it to her then. ------------- |

BH do hurt - but if you change position sometimes they disappear. Just mention them to your mw at your next appointment. I felt mine really early on in my pregnancies and they were just normal. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  [/url http://lilypie.com">

I was told 20weeks onwards you can start having BH, 19weeks is probably close enough chonny, I'd mention it to your mw just to be sure, it could be irritable uterus, I found that made mine start earlier and hurt a bit more than the BH I had in my first pgy. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

thanks helen, i spoke to a peadiatrician today (friend of mine) and she said it may be worth while just making sure it isn't any nasties since we just got back from samoa. But am thinkin mayb it is bh. See midwife next wed so see what she says then i guess -------------
