from me.

The husband is a Peter F Hamilton, Iain Banks fan though (any others, no idea - those are just two authors he has quite a few of!).

Nice to see you're still around Chovy!

Thats a good point.
ok ill give a little more info.
I'm into Scifi. -> Space Scifi. Aliens, Stargates, ships, space, jedis, Vaders (there can be only one), dogfights in the black of space, lightsabers, technological scifi.

Not the Jumanji or A Series of Unfortunate Events type scifi - i class that as more fantasy.

I'm...writing some SciFi Fanfiction.
Due to some previous comments on my writing styles
I thought you guys might like to read it

I play a computer game called Freelancer when I can. (often late at nights.)
It's a story about humanity. They do their usual
fighting. Eventually it boils down to two groups, the
Coalition Vs the Alliance. The Coalition are winning.
"Finally the Coalition strikes at the Earth setting up a
blockade around Earth and the Alliance in desperation,
launch 8 gigantic "sleeper" ships to find a new home in
the Sirius sector, near the Dog star. The first
launched ships names are:
  1. Liberty
  2. Rheinland
  3. Hispania
  4. Kusari
  5. Bretonia

The other 3 got sabotaged, and were unable to lift off at
that first launch date. Just after the ships had
successfully breached the Coalition Blockade, a
previously unknown alien enemy, that we call "Nomads"
uncloaked and destroyed our planet with a terrifying beam
of vast power. They then unleashed a 2nd powerful
strike at our sun and made it go supernova it, effectively
wiping out the Sol system.

The 5 remaining sleep ships made a desperate run for
the Sirius System. Liberty landed first, on a planet in the
middle of Sirius. They named the planet that they landed
on "Manhattan". The Rheinland landed next in the
South-Eastern parts. Bretonia landed in the south
western parts of the star system. The Kusari landed in
the Northern area.

Near the end of the long journey the Hispania was
crippled, and left adrift in the outer regions of Sirius. The
survivors had a tough time and some are rumoured to
have become cannibals. The majority of them have
become pirates and outcasts.

That was 800 years ago. In that time the four houses have started trading amongst each other, building the economies of the houses. We have grown. We have prospered. But we will never forget."

Later on in the game, you find out THIS Sirius system is
where the Nomads came from. We've just bolted into the
wasps nest, so to speak.

There is a RolePlay Server that I play the game on, and
I have written some fan fiction for the game. I started
out as a Junker; (that is a person similar to a car yard
junk dealer, or the "Reapers" of Serenity (without the
bloodlust)). During one of my normal everyday trading
and collection runs I came across some nomads (played
by players of extremely good RolePlay - and they are the
only ones allowed to play nomads.) They started
speaking telepathically (ingame designated by
***light***names?***dark*** etcc, to me.

The stories I have written and am co-writing with another
person who was there at the nomad encounter, are the
result of that encounter.

Here's is a http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15085 - Journal of my character up until that encounter.
Here are the subsequent http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15452 - stories .

Because (as far as I know...) you don't play freelancer,
some things may not make sense at first. Just apply
general SciFi rules and understanding to the stuff. Much
more will be explained later in the stories because I'm
trying to get the right balance between making a kickass
story and not-spoiling things for new players who read them.

well, guess I am a bit. Hubby is too, more so than me.
I used to love Babylon 5 and Stargate.
But not into Star Trek or Stargate Atlantis and don't really know what else is on these days as no longer watch much TV. Oh, and does Star Wars count? LOVE the original star wars. I like the lastest (first 3 episodes) ones but they still don't beat the original movies. I must have watched them about 500 times lol.
