Im just curious, when you went into labour or before you went into labour did your babys movements change? Like did they go quiet or stay the same etc? ------------- |

I can't remember with Jack but Caprece did not slow down. Actually I think she moved more, she would do a big kick at the end of each contraction and boy it hurt.
My midwife told me to still feel for movements in early labour. |

Oh yep, I guess it would be a bit of a worry if they went totally still!

Daniel slowed down ALOT, I ended up in hospital being monitored a few times for movements because he was extremely quiet in there and my MW just wanted to check on him.
I don't remember feeling him at all when I was in active labour either. |

So if when Im in labour and Im still at home, cadens movements slow down quite a bit its best I ring my midwife and let her know? ------------- |

| It only matters if you don't get 10 in a day. My MW preferred me to have 10 by 3pm so if we couldn't get him moving we could go up to be monitored at a reasonable hour. I had 3 or 4 times that I remember where 2pm came, and only a couple of movements had been felt so I'd lie down and drink cold water to try and get him moving. |

sheena, i don't remember Vincent moving heaps at all during the labour. but i had been told the same thing, at least 10 in a day, -------------

| I remember feeling Tom when I was in labour as I was lying down with a probe stuck on his head. Every time he moved the probe tickled me....very odd feeling! |

I believe if your movements slow down that you should be contacting your midwife.
About a week before I went into labour Lucy went absolutely nuts. I had pretty much non-stop movement all afternoon and I would estimate there were probably 2000 movements there. It was crazy. She was always a pretty active bub in utero but I never had that many movements at any other time. Yeah I must say, Caden has had moments over the past week where he has gone nuts in there and had me in pain! DF and I sat watching my tummy and it was like a blimmin alien was gonna bust out of it!
I was relieved when he settled down again 
He is a very very active baby though, even my midwife has said that, cos when ever she tries to feel his position he kicks out and moves away lol so she has to chase him! ------------- |

Spencer went absolutely crazy the day I went into labour (labour started 11pm) Then each time I ended up going into labour he would go crazy between contractions, when being monitored I was told that was really good as it meant he wasn't distressed, in actual fact he seemed to be enjoying it
I have heard of babies going quiet before labour though, almost like they are resting ready for labour. -------------

Michaela was a big mover all through my pregnancy then she all but stopped when I was in labour. I did have meconium in my waters so don't know if that's related (since she's my first I've always assumd it was normal that she stopped moving). Anyway the midwife wasn't too worried, her heartbeat was still strong on the doppler and once I got to hospital and was hooked up she showed up fine on the foetal monitor. -------------

Andrew went quite quiet during active labour and had to be monitored the whole time - we had the fetal monitor thingy on his head. However Josh on the other hand was one active baby and was still kicking as he was coming out. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I had a big kick that felt like it broke my waters....not sure if its a coincedence or not.
To be honest, my labour was very quick (2.5 hours) and very intense and i can even remember feeling the baby move at all....i was so overwhelmed by trying to cope with the contractions. I have heard it is quite common for the baby to slow down movements when labour is approaching...and for others, the movements stay the same. I think there is a chart in your midwife book (the one she writes in) where you can track the movements if you need. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

sounds just like my pregnancy with jackson. i was in agony every time he moved his head. he was very active until my waters broke.. i think after that i was in so much pain i didnt even notice his movements.

Don't mean to be the one with the scary story, but definately alert your midwife if he's unusually quiet. Eden was a disco dancer and a contortionist all throughout my pregnancy, but right at the end she quietend right down.
I ended up in hospital being monitored wheich showed decelerations in her heart rate... Turned out she had very little foetal liquor surrounding her (ideally they like to see at least 2cm, I only had .5cm in some parts, others 1cm... wasn't leaking waters, so don't know how that happens!) so I ended up having an emergency c-section before she became distressed. When she was delivered, her cord was wrapped round her legs twice, bungy style, so that, combined with reduced liquor contributed to the decelerations and reduced movement. So in a nutshell, I'd let your midwife know... I'm so so glad that my midwife continued asking me that day if I was feeling her moving, otherwise who knows what may''ve happened   ------------- My wee girl is the love and light of my life!

What happened with me was, he'd kick and carry on - i'd have a contraction which he'd pretty much stop moving thru and afterwards he'd start moving again.
But yea, if you're worried, the midwife will do a CTG and check you out :) |

I was just wondering what they do during labour so I know what to look out for. I did discuss this with my midwife today aswell  ------------- |
