I keep coming across this issue, particularly with health stuff lately because the only people (bar my aunt, who I've seen about 3 times since my marriage 5 yrs ago) who I know with gluten intolerance are on OB. And I know one person IRL struggling with endo (which my dr first thought I had), and now Mummy_Becks, but everyone else is on here.
So my dr asks how I'm getting on with sorting out what products have gluten in them, and I say that I've been asking "a friend of mine who is coeliac" all my questions and miss out the "that I've never met except on an online forum" part!!
At other times when I talk about friends who get pg on the IUD or have twins etc, I refer to them as "a friend of a friend" so I don't sound corny having not ever seen/met them!
Do you quote your OB friends?

depends who I'm talking to. if it is someone I know, i'll say one my friends fromOhbaby, or from "My website". if I don't know them so well, i'll just say "a friend" - not cause I'm ashamed just cause a friend is a friend right?

I'm not ashamed so much as, associate with a lot of old-fashioned people. My parents are a bit like the ppl that Stacey suggested, although younger!

yeh - depends who I'm talking to whether I say "a friend said..." or "one of my mates online said..."
Those who know nothing about Oh Baby don't appreciate the support and advice we get from each other, we're not one of those forums with dirty old men pretending to be 16 year old girls!
Most of us are pretty savvy when it comes to that stuff anyways and usually manage to weed out the freaks

Actually some people wonder how come I have so many friends who all freakishly gave birth in the same month as me!
When I talk to DH or someone else who knows about my oh baby compulsion about something .. I usually say the Oh Baby Mummies.

Yeah most people who know me already know that I'm a geek so I just say 'one of my message board friends said...'
With other people, who I'm still trying to keep up the facade of coolness with, I just make vague references to 'someone I know...' or similar.

Haha I'm giggling in the corner also, and I'm sure it's not just because it's so late at night (for me)!!
DH sometimes refers to this site as Oh, Bay-by! in fun, but I never really thought about ppl taking it the wrong way!!

It does depend who I am talking to.
My mum thinks this place has been great for me as I have meet people from all over the country and I have other people that have the same things going on as me. She also thinks that it is cool that Josh shares his birthday with another person who we know but haven't met. She thought is was really nice that we gave each other birthday presents and we have never met.
Most of my friends know I am here all the time and don't really care.

I do that too, sometimes when I'm talking to people IRL I have to stop myself from calling Ian DH. His name's so short anyway I don't even know why I shorten it further.
I quote OB mums all the time and usually say it came from 'one of the girls', 'a friend' or 'online/ohbaby'. Unless it's something really brilliant, then I say that I came up with it all by myself
There are a couple of reasons I don't always say "from a forum", first being I consider many of you to be my friends now *aah..group hug* so saying that it came from a friend is easier and truthful.
The other reason, particularly when talking to medical profs, is that many seem to see the internet and online forums as scare mongerers and I don't want the valuable information and advice that I have received from you all to be discounted simply because we communicate online.
