Hi There
I've been lurking for a little while. I stumbled upon this site while doing some research for work and am finding it addictive following people's journeys into parenthood. It's been a few years since I had babies but it would have been great to have this sort of network then. I feel a bit like an intruder and hope you don't mind me being cheeky? Anyway I need some gift ideas for a friend who is having twins (boy & girl). I'd really like to get something a bit different (not the obvious clothes, etc). But I'm a bit out of touch. |

Check out Baby Factory, they have some lovely frames and keep sakes. Also Farmers do too.

Thanks .Mel - will definitely be going shopping just wanting some ideas to get me started. Your eldest is the same age as my youngest son.
What sort of things have you still got from when he was born as I really want to get something as a keep sake. My eldest was given an engraved silver christening mug and my middle one had a cross stitch made with his name and date of birth on it. It's a bit hard to do something like that until after they're born and named. |

Yup I second Mel re: babyfactory, I bought a lovely time capsule/baby keepsake tin ...it came with a little photo album, baby milestones book to fill in, a first tooth and curl holder etc etc which all went into this lovely floral and cherub decorated aluminium tube. Oh gosh... ummmm he got an identity bracelet, it was silver. Also a greenstone necklace from his great grandfather. His great aunty made him cross stitch stuff too. When Nyah was born she got cross stitch from her too.

What is an identity bracelet? Is it engraved?
I could have done with somewhere like this to let off steam, share and laugh with other mums going through the same stuff. I joined New Mothers Support Group which was my life line and have some very close friends from those days that I still have lots to do with - don't know if it still exists now? |

Ellen I have just thought of something that would knock their socks off. It's a really neat idea my friend found online and it's very practical too.

Okay here we go
You can find the instructions for making these bouquets online. They are really effective and not difficult to make either. You can roll up baby faceclothes, onesie singlets (these things being the most practical, Lucas LIVED in onesies throughout summer months ...you can NEVER have enough of them) ...socks etc etc. There's a technique to rolling them up. Fake/Plastic flowers ...wrapping, bows ...the works. It doesn't have to cost much either & since it's twins (boy/girl) you can have a mixture of colours. At Farmers/Warehouse/Baby Factory you can buy 3 or 4 packs of onesie singlets ...as well as multipacks of socks, muslins/faceclothes. I wish someone had of done this for me, I guess its along the same lines as nappy cakes, creative and lots of thought put into it. ------------- Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :) |

That boquet looks awesome. Don't think I'd attempt it though - not very patient with stuff like that. I like the idea of the time capsule though.

I got given Andrew's first oufit in a really neat box that I have kept and that now holds all his keepsake stuff in it. Farmers have cool stuff, and so do Stevens. The birth Certificate holders are really cool. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

My wee boy was brought a really gorgeous teether. I love it soooo much and will be keeping it.
I think they now stock them at Baby City its made by *runs off to check* Tolo. Its really simple and is only plastic but its just really pretty....so pretty infact that it sits on display in his room and has never been used. The other thing he got that we will be keeping is a bed toy...its a really cute bug in a leaf. The bugs head pokes thru the leaf but can be removed...he loves it but try and keep it for good. Its brand is *runs off to check ...again* Egmont Toys (www.egmonttoys.com). Super cute for twins if you can get one each! Hope that helps! -------------

Just checked out the website above and it doesn't list stockists in NZ but goggled egmont toys in NZ and the only on-lin selller I could find was www.littlehedgehog.co.nz . Just search the site..the thing we have got is called a doudou..ours in a lady bug one but they only have a rabbit one but super cute and they could possibly order another one in for you as on the egmont website they say they have a bee and a fish at the mo also.
Must go put back in the cot before he wakes! -------------
