Our flatmate moved out last night. He was supposed to clean his room but didn't and he has left this huge brown stain on the carpet. He just left and never said a word about it, just left it for us to discover. The thing that makes me most angry is that I txt him and he reckons he doesn't know what the stain is from.

OMG how rude .

I would make him come back and clean it or bill him for it.

Grr.... hate that!!!
ONe flatmate did something similar to us: he left his room and there was a big mouldy patch from where he has spilt something.. I had to cut the carpet out to get rid of it so i didnt rot the floor...

Thing is he tried to clean it with carpet cleaner but only made a nice large ring around the stain. We still have his bond so he won't get it back if we can't get it out.
Still makes me angry!

Oh that sucks, definitely hold onto his bond. You could hire one of those carpet cleaners from Foodtown (mindblank can't remember the name) and pay for it out of his bond. They seem to work pretty well.

It's called rug doctor.  We use them and it's really good.  Make sure you use his bond to pay for the rug doctor stain remover too.

Totally! We have a vax so DH will go over it first. I've just tried white vinegar and salt on it. See if that works too.

I just txt him to tell him that we would keep his bond if we can't get the stain out. Haven't got a reply yet. Hope it doesn't get all sour situation. We aren't with the tenancy tribunal or anything like that.
