Is it considered a 'healthy' snack for toddlers? I always thought there was a choking risk but was told otherwise by a friend. If I give Lucas some, he eats it like it's going out of fashion. I'm just wondering if its okay for him to eat ...and which is a better option - the microwave light butter ones or the ones that come in lil snack/chippy type packs from pop'n' good?

TIA

I don't feed it to Ashlee, but I suspect she's had some at her daycare. Far too paranoid about the choking hazard! And I'd pop my own. Less additives/colour/sodium that way too.

I didn't give her any until about 2. And made sure to pick our all the unpopped kernels.

Popping your is definitely healthy - and sooo easy (not to mention cheaper).
I just put my pan on medium/high, heat some oil, add kernels and keep moving the pan until they start popping.

I always thought that about popcorn too! (the choking thing!).  Mr 2 loves it too, I just keep a pretty close eye on him when he is eating it, I dont like the stuff myself but ocacsionally DH will pop some if they are watching a movie or something.

I don't think it's considered a healthy snack if it's prepackaged/buttered etc... but if it's plain then it is. All purpose seasoning is a nice taste for older kids for popcorn, without overdoing it on the sugar or grease.

You can air pop in the microwave. Just pop the corn kernels in a brown paper bag and twist it closed.

Yummy

I was the receptionist at Pop'n'Good for 3 years...

The light'n'buttery popcorn used to have the heart foundation tick. I am not entirely sure why it doesn't anymore (unless it does). Obviously popping your own is better for you (unless you are coating it in your own butter etc).

Used to eat loads of the stuff and get it under half price when I worked there. Pop'n'Good also are the distributors of the American stuff Act II (microwave popcorn).

Anyone tried the chocolate and caramel coated popcorn made by Pop'n'Good. Hard to find... but soooooo good.

Tara - the Heart Foundation tick is something that is bought. The company buys the tick to put on their products, so it's quite likely that it still is a healthier option, but maybe the company doesn't pay to use the tick anymore.

I wish I could remember where I read/heard about that! It's going to drive me nuts until I remember.

I know at the time they said something about not sure which catagory it should be in... maybe it was because of purchasing????
