Hey. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what it is like being an ECE Teacher or how they found the study. Or whether or not they obtained the TeachNZ scholarship.
Thinking of going down this route, as I would love to work with children and don't want to work in an office for the rest of my life.
Greatly appreciated.
Tara

KA is an ECE teacher, I'm sure she'll be on here in the morning, or you could always PM her (foxxy_one)
My cousin's studying right now, and you can do both fulltime or part-time study, which means part-time is something like 1 day a week at college and at least 15hours a week at the centre you are bonded to, then placements as well, and full-time is always at the centre except for your teaching placements. They also pay for your registration whereas primary schools don't, so that's a bonus!

Thanks for that Emz. You are a star. I've always loved the idea of ECE teaching and maybe now I can actually get around to doing it part-time.

Emz, I do secondary and they pay for your registration. My DH is primary and they paid for his registration so maybeit depends on the school.

Interesting...DH is only full but they paid right from the start and same with him...well worth negioating that when taking a job then...maybe it depends on whether you are permanet or fixed term?

Im an ece teacher and its great! i love my job and missed it so much that i have been relieving while on maternity leave! I say go for it! its also a great job to have when you have your own kids as you can work with or nearby your own children. i did the bachelor of education through auckland teachers college whichi was fulltime in class but there are options out there like NZ tertiary college which does it by correspondence and block courses which might suit you being a mum as well.

I think Peanut probably depends I guess, most jobs that friends have applied for you have to have PR before you apply as it can take 4 months which is too long and you need it to complete more than 10 days of teaching. But cool if you got it for free, I'd be stoked!
Tara - my cousin (who I said about before) is in her 2nd year (supposed to be 3rd) and is due with her 1st baby in a few weeks. She's taking a year off then will go back. A lot of places offer discounts for care if you work there. But I think (and someone correct me) that if your child is in under 2's, you have to work in over 2's and vice versa.
I say go for it aswell. Teaching is so rewarding. I've only just completed my primary training last year but I'm just itching to get out there and get a job (although will be another year or two).

rego is different for ECE.. but i had to pay for mine(provisional but boss would probably have paid for full)...most people do for provisional i think as most people get it straight out of college? depends if you have a job already or not i guess?
any questions just ask ladyluck, but if you are passionate about it I'd say go for it..I did my first degree fulltime(primary) at chch the ACE....and then fulltime 15month grad diploma at Chch college here as well as working (hard working 4 days !! and doing it)
for me the study was boring but loved the job..:) though not sure what i will do about work as i personallly dont want to work at same centre as Ethan at least this young I will probably end up doing at home care..but as i said if it's your passion I would go for it:) it doesnt pay well(at least not yet) but it's got great rewards:)
