Who else has someone who tries to makes them feel totally incompetent?

There is this one woman in my office who has a 2 year old and seems to think this means she knows everything and only her way is right.

I’ve been frowned upon for eating McDonalds, shocked that my doctor is not sending me for further testing for Down’s Syndrome (bearing in mind my results said a risk of 1 in 8 000 and 1 in 11 000 or trisomy 13), castigated for putting on weight (she stayed stick thin and in fact lost weight – partially illness related granted and never showed until 6 months), believes the whole metallic taste in mouth thing is people just talking themselves into it, aghast that I'm using public health care instead of paying for private care so baby has the best like hers…the list goes on.

I was really quite hurt because I was commenting about how having seen my god-daughter born I felt like I was somewhat mentally prepared for what could happen. I was told this was also wrong because all births are different. I know that but I still feel somewhat prepared knowing it isn't going to look like a Hollywood movie and there will be blood and it could take ages and the baby is not going to look perfect and clean when it comes out!

I’m sure she means well but ohhhhhhh I want to tell her to shove it sometimes. It’s so hard sometime to nod and smile sweetly. I appreciate some of her advice but her opinion that only she can be right and I apparently know nothing is grating on me.

Does anyone else have one of these people in their life?

Tell her to feck off!

I think you are slightly prepared having seen a birth (that's why they show videos in antenatal classes right?!?!) atleast you have an idea about the amount of effort it takes to push a babe out!

Eat whatever you want Paws. Being stressed about food is bad for the babe too - probably more so than a Big Mac

You can't win with people like that but I say you are doing fine.

i got so annoyed when i was preggy with my daughter. i was working in retail and some days it felt like every secomd customer was telling me "you've got no idea what you're in for" i was like, i know isn't that what makes it so exciting?! man, some people are annoying and the woman in your office sounds like the worst paws! if i were you i'd want to throttle her. tell her politely or impolitely if you're brave enough that you are doing what is right for your family and her opinion has no bearing on the decisions you make. good luck!

I'm glad it's not just me!

I'm trying to just smile simply because we are generally a close office (only 7 of us work there) so I don't want to cause a huge scene and I can't even just walk away most of the time.

I'm thinking maybe I could try just using the "I appreciate your advice but this is what is working for me" approach. And remembering to breathe!

I admire your patience, Paws! People like that who believe they are the ONLY ones who know how to live are so annoying!

Ahh Paws, I guess some people think they know better, I personally would go for the "whats working for me approach" I am sure she may mean well but it doesn't sit well with everyone.

Hugs Hope it gets easier for you.

lolol, say to her - "well, if it sooo hard, then i don't know how you ever got through it!" lololol.. no that's mean. but well, if she knows "best" then she should also know about how hard it is to be a first time mum. telll her that, and then ask why, instead of being supportive, she insists on making you feel stupid - maybe she had someone do the same to her when she was preggers so feels that's the only way to go.

by the way, having said all that above, i'm not making any excuses for her at all cos she sounds pretty uppity and nasty to me.

Ok now I think I'm going to shoot her...

We had the sushi guy come in selling sushi and I mentioned how I'm looking foward to having salmon again in sushi.

She starts bleating on about how she thought raw fish was fine...I said I was told by my doctor it must all be well cooked and I understood that was the general rule.

Her eyebrows shot up and she said very snootily...."oh but she thinks it's ok for you to have rolls from the cafe?"

I pointed out that I get the vegetarian rolls fresh made in the morning so the are NOT sitting around and she just walked off saying..."they are still sitting around so that is just weird".

Sorry for the rant but I've had it.

No I certainly wouldn't be able to hold my tongue either!!!

Paws, just a little OTT question, I was just updating the Due Date list as mine has changed and it is saying your due date is the 20th Sept? Is that correct? Becasue if it is, you would be 13w1d but your ticker says 13w3d??? Would be cool to have someone due the same day as me

Sorry about the whole "rolls" comment... If you made your lunch at home in the morning it would be sitting around all day so are you expected to go to the supermarket and buy your bun's , fillings etc and make it at your desk at Lunchtime when the food you are making it with has been sitting in the supermarket all day?!

Sorry she bugs me and I don't even know her!!!

I already sent Paws an email about this... but my offer *definitely* still stands about coming over to your office for lunch with the biggest, fattest ham sandwich I can find and a giant cup of coffee from Starbucks or something. Then, when I'm finished that, I'll whip out the sushi !! Muahahahahahahahaa...
